2014-12-20 - Played Ultimate. Made delicious paleo general tso's chicken and a veggie stir fry for our game day, along with some roasted kombacha squash and macadamia chocolate citrus balls.

So... I've been fighting a weird neck injury headache thing that I originally thought was because of my new night guard (like a very small football mouth piece i'm supposed to wear at night to keep me from grinding my teeth). After some expirimenting with not wearing the guard, looks like now was actually caused by when I was doing pullups with sweaty hands, slipped, then tensed and caught myself instinctively, rather than fall the 6 inches to the floor. Anyway, when i did that i wrenched my neck a little, but didn't think much of it. ever since then I've been having tons of headaches. This was actually a big contributer to my holiday weight gain, in that sometimes i basically couldn't move and sometimes i could, but figured i shouldn't. Shannon (wife's a massage therapist) has been doing some head traction thing on me a couple times a day for a week or two now and it's seemed to really help. I didn't even think about my neck all yesterday.

 

Over break, I did do a decent amount of walking and some gathering and chopping wood, but that's about it, and frankly I suspect even that was a mistake. Definitely shouldn't have eaten so many sweets. Did really well eating paleo stuff even with my family by doing a lot of the cooking, but then would eat a stupid tootsie roll. I intended to relax a little about not eating sugar while i was there, but definitely let that go too far.

 

Anyway, since we've been back home, been at it hard.

Biked 8 miles pulling the trailer, played ultimate for 2 hours running pretty hard, then biked 3 miles to the store and 5 miles home pulling a trailer of groceries. Oh, also it was pouring rain for a lot of that. In Las Vegas... Gotta admit, felt pretty bad ass while people were dashing out to their cars from the store as I'm loading up my bike trailer.

Legs are fairly sore from yesterday's escapades, so while this should be a strength training day, I'm going to just do some upper body stuff and let my legs skip the strength training. I do have an appointment though so unless it is raining, I'll be biking 12 miles, but no trailer, so that's pretty restful.

Haven't really been posting but have been doing my "peg leg workout" 3x a week on account of having a dysfunctional knee. Also cutting out biking (for a couple weeks), hiking (for a couple weeks) and ultimate (for a long time, maybe forever) has a pretty drastic affect on my food needs that i've been working on adjusting to.
