I was implying he was a "bad boy" but yeah apparently he was based on Edward???!!!!! I don't get it, but whatever. Basically, they're awkward, quiet, older, brooding, and questionably dangerous. 

 

In the context of that horribly written world, I am Team Jacob, but otherwise, yeah, totes Team Buffy/Blade/Winchester/Anita Blake... etc.

How does Porno works without porno. But why all the fuzz, not like it's the first time that a woman falls in love with a guy, the guy acts tough but in the end he falls in love with the girl.

Vampires are meant to be scary and dangerous, not sparkling prettyboys or Victoria's Secret models.

 

In a way, I understand the desire for "bad boys". Or, well, I understand the desire for bad men since I don't do boys It's like... of course I want someone who's trustworthy, treats me well, and takes care of me. But I have a dark side too, and I want someone who also understand that and whose demons play well with mine, to express that in a poetic manner. I don't want to be afraid I'll scare them away, or be unsatisfied because they're nice and all but they don't have that edge I crave. I admit there's something very attractive in someone who's potentially dangerous, not to me but to people who deserve it. (Also, traditionally people on the dark side have style. I'm very partial to finely fitted black suits and other traditional villain wardrobe items.)

 

Unfortunately, that's not the common interpretation of "bad boys". Often they're just rude, unreliable, rebelling for the sake of rebelling, abusive, have substance abuse problems, and/or all of the above. That's not my idea of attractive, but most romantic male leads in media are pretty f'd up.

They weren't even just "bad boys"... both those stories were depictions of abusive relationships. I find it disturbing that unhealthy relationships are being marketed as romance.  /soapbox

 

 

On the topic of hot vampires, Spike over Angel any day. Angel pouted and whined while he had his soul,and tried to torture/kill her and everyone she cared about when he didn't have one. Spike had no soul, fell in love with her, almost did something horrible and it snapped him into realizing that she deserved better and WENT AND IMPROVED.  Team Spike 4Lyfe

There are some interesting findings in Evolutionary Psychology about attraction to Bad boys... or at least hypermasculine and aggressive males. Men pretty much always rate a feminine face as most attractive. The facial features that denote sort of "alpha male" are viewed as more hostile and not always as attractive to women, but women find these more aggressive looking faces more attractive when ovulating.

 

There is sort of a theory that the hypermasculine male might provide the best genetics but the slightly kinder more approachable may be more likely to stay and invest energy into raising children.  This is all super paraphrased here.  ALso important to note all this research is done with cisgendered and heterosexual participants.

 

I find it interesting.

I like Angel more now that I am watching "Angel", but I definitely prefer Spike, and I looooove William. He's adorably pathetic and awkward and sweet when he's William. I was hoping we would see more of his William side once he went and got his soul back.

Unfortunately he could never go back to being the sweet poet after his lifetimes of evil, but yes, William's only flaw was being a mama's boy.
