My mom abhors alcohol consumption (not sure why, I think some bad experiences have set her off), so I am thinking she will be a great recruit for a limitation goal if I have to text her every time I drink. I did well on alcohol (THANK YOU, REBELS!) and pretty well on calories (just 200 over the first 2 nights). It was only last night that I went all "holiday" crazy and let myself sample many holiday treats (this was before even 1 glass of wine, so it was definitely a rational decision to let myself enjoy one day of holiday foods). As a result, I stopped my forward progress with a blunt palm strike to the chin which put it on the floor for 24 hours. My progress will pick itself up and keep going, very warily until Tuesday and the last PARTY hurdle. I owe myself a Penalty for yesterday, but I'm not sure when I'll walk it as we're having a snowstorm today. Maybe I'll do 20 minutes of vigorous calisthenics instead. Even with my cold (which I won't diet during; just eat what I need) and the parties, I only gained back 2 pounds. So now it's an 8-pound push to meet my mini challenge. It's looking tough, but I figure I'm better off for attempting it than sitting around being a drugged-out stuffy head. I don't want to cut calories when I'm ill, and it seems to have worked because I got through this cold at a pretty good pace considering all the additional evening parties, home repairs (contractors and sister's burst pipes), work deadlines, etc. The good news is I basically held my ground despite the amnesty, and I thank Nerd Fitness for that. My 1-rep minimum continues to serve me well, and gets me into my morning fitness routine every day even if I'm beat. Week 3: The Final Push I'm looking at my total fail in the Food department for most of this challenge, and have decided to redefine the rules. I'm apparently not prepared to go for 1300 calories a day. When I'm mentally prepared, the diet is easy. I'm clearly too tapped out to find the fun in it right now. I did mention this was a half-a$$ed respawn, didn't I? I need something that is astoundingly easy to accomplish, like the 1-rep minimum. I'm therefore going to reset my calories to a maintenance level: 1800 calories. Technically I won't lose weight if I adhere to this. But the important point is I won't gain weight, and I won't feel defeated by continually missing my goal. I plan to do the Whole30 challenge in January, although I'll be starting on the 5th due to travel. Harihead Posted December 30, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 30, 2014 Final outcome: really, really poor. I lost 3 pounds and struggled to keep it. I was just not in the mood to eat well, but this challenge did prevent me from going totally crazy. I like the 1/2 sets and the 1 rep minimum. I will continue that into the January challenge. I think the food penalty of $5 per 100 calories is way too harsh and demotivates me. I'm going to carry forward the Walk to Mordor penalty and the $5 per blown calories per day into the January challenge. So, $5 + if I beat my goal, $5 - if I blow it. We'll see if that works better.
