Overheard in the gym - Share!

I somehow missed the whole Dadbod thing until I saw the video on Broscience yesterday.

By all that's good and Holy, kill it.  With fire.  A lot.  Then mix the ashes with salt and scatter them to the four winds.

I"m in the dadbod zone, but I don't look like any of the examples that they gave...

Having a borderline dadbod (on the high end), I'm for the dad bad movement. I think the dad bod examples they give are probably my best case scenario long term.

I literally haven't heard any mention of dad bod outside of this thread and the broscience video, I must have different social circles to a lot of you.

I don't use twitter or any of the social media sites, but I first heard it on Mike Rashid's YouTube and then on another YouTuber's channel.

Yahoo has some articles on it last week.  First I've heard about it too.

I have read about it online. It makes me laugh because it's pretty much majorityofmenbod. Or at least majorityofmeninohiobod. That Growhio State t-shirt made me laugh.

As far as i'm aware this hasn't happened in England.

But then again i'm woefully off the pulse, or whatever the phrase is. I'm that far off it, i can't even say it.

I don't think I understand what it is, the body type of a dad? So someone who's too busy working and spending time with their kids to devote much time to being physically fit? I have a feeling this will be one of life's many fads I never truly get, like meerkat adverts or jaegermeister.

Yeah, former HS/college athlete who now doesn't have the time to diet and exercise regularly because of job/kids/wife made famous by various movie stars.  It may be considered body acceptance for men.

I mean I also look at it as the "i gots money now bitch" body.  Haha, its easy to stay slim when you're on a forced caloric deficit cause your broke. When you start getting a little money, you start eating better more.

I'm surprised he had pizza, and not a bowl of that "horrifying diarrhea sludge" "abominable garbage-gravy" "jailhouse spaghetti" called Skyline Chili

Full Disclosure: Although I'm from Jersey, I am proud of my family's Michigan Heritage

I completely agree that Skyline Chili is sludge. Ick. I don't even consider Cincinnati part of Ohio. The only time I think about that town is when I read some sort of internet article that purports to list something representative of Ohio. Probably 80% of the time they list something from Cincinnati, which is pretty much in Northern Kentucky.

Which is great, the issue with this sudden dadbod thing is that in the original article, one of the reasons for liking it amounts to we want you to be the fat ugly friend, so we look better standing next to you. There's a confidence builder when you get told how nice of a dadbod you've got.

The rest of the reasons scream female insecurity...

Yeah, I read the original article and thought that the author had insecurity issues.

Back to an actual "overheard in the gym..."

So last Friday I was in the gym a bit later in the morning than I usually am, but there were a ton of new faces that I had never seen lifting in the morning before. These two 18 or 19 year olds sign up and are walking around the gym giddy as fuck looking at the equipment.  I smile, cause I know that feeling of pure joy walking into a real strength or strongman gym, it's hard not to be giddy.

I help them set up chains and watch them bench between my sets. I'm in my own head doing leg extensions and hear a huge crash...then 5 seconds later another huge crash.  275lbs of plates came crashing to the ground. The bencher's spotter was bright red, apparently he misloaded one side of the bar.  They reloaded the bar (with the correct weight) and the kid proceeded to hit an ugly PR of about 300 or 305.

I've heard excerpts of the original article and the author admits to being insecure.  I think there was something about her not wanting a man with a ripped body because it makes her insecure at the beach and that women are insecure enough in bikinis that they don't need their partner's to have great bodies.
