Mordechaj
I was quite impressed with the very short biography of Mordechaj Anielewicz in my high school history book, so I decided to take up his first name as an online identity. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordechai_Anielewicz If you have to go, don't go quietly. Wobbegong
I actually just changed my NF handle last night. I was formerly Tyrannosaurus Rose, which is a nickname I was given by an aunt when I was a kid. My first name starts with a T and Rose is my middle name, and I had (have) a bit of a temper. So I was T-Rose, like T-Rex. I started using it as an online handle a couple of years ago, so when I made my NF account and stepped up to the forums it seemed like the natural choice. So why the change? Well, for starters, Tyrannosaurus is kind of a pain to type out (although using it so regularly has helped me greatly with mastering the spelling lol), and most people would call me Rose instead of T-Rose, which makes me feel like I'm working. (I used Rose on my name tag when I was a barista at Starbucks... apparently my first name is difficult to pronounce.) Plus, even when going ahead with T-Rose, as a childhood nickname it kind of made me feel like a kid. Most importantly, although I like the name a lot and strongly identify with it, I don't feel like it really fits who I am as a person or as a rebel. I really like the ocean. Most people who know me well know that I have a tremendous interest in aquarium-keeping and in ocean fauna, and I thought, more than Pokemon or Final Fantasy or super heroes or any of the other more "traditional" things that capture my nerd interest, an ocean name would be best. I considered TriggerFish, because then people could call me Trigger (or Fish, which tbh I would also be fine with haha), but as much as I like triggers there's nothing much about them I particularly identify with. So then I thought, if I was looking for a name I liked, why not Wobbegong? It's tremendously fun to say, not too long or complicated to type out, and it's a shark. I love sharks. Plus all twelve extant wobbegong shark species enjoy a conservation status of "Least Concern" or unrated, which means I don't get anxious thinking about them. Carpet sharks (wobbegong) are flat, mottled sharks that hang out on the ground in front of caves. They're ambush predators, and every part of them is designed perfectly to serve this function, from the coral-shaped whiskers that break up their silhouette to their long flowing tails that they wave behind them in the back of caves to convince other fish it's safe to venture near. They're not much to look at, but they are patient, efficient, flexible, and effective -- all traits I look forward to improving here at Nerd Fitness. So Wobbegong it is. 7 Quote Link to comment

animuse
I have three online handles, this is the one I'm most aligned with (one being super old and the other being a moosh of my full name, which is pretty boring). Tl;dr version: animus + muse In Jungian theory, women have the animus, the psyche's male representation (men have anima for their female variant) Quote: Woman is compensated by a masculine element and therefore her unconscious has, so to speak, a masculine imprint. This results in a considerable psychological difference between men and women, and accordingly I have called the projection-making factor in women the animus, which means mind or spirit. (From The Syzygy: Anima and Animus, Collected Works, 9ii, par. 28f.) Since around preteen when I had a choice about things, I've eschewed a lot of "girly" things. In high school I thought I must have been male is a past life. Some of this could have something to do with being the only girl in my siblings, but after years of reflection outside that situation, I've settled on the fact that I'm somewhere around gender neutral (the realization that you could be trans* but not have body dismorphia was a bit of a lightbulb for me recently). FYI, all pronouns are acceptable for me So anyway, my masculine side is pretty important and I wanted something to reflect that, especially since it's not always readily obvious. Part 2 - I'm an artist! I also like to inspire others. And my personal muse tends to lean male in my head. Combining the two has brought out other implications as well - in a lot of online bios I say I'm easily amused, because I am. Animation sometimes gets construed in there. I've known people to shorten it to Ani and think my name is Ann (definitely not, lol) So it basically comes down to a external projection of my spirit - male, artistic, easily amused Sent from my SM-G925P using Tapatalk 4 Quote Level 12 Kitsune Ranger It's an adventuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure! Gemma
Gemma was a character in a book that I started to write and never finished. The plot refused to go anywhere, but I loved the character. Very long story very short, 22 years ago my ex-husband beat me, ruined me financially, spent all our money on cocaine, and left me for his dealer. I was left depressed, broke on the brink of homelessness, and feeling that I held no value for the human race. If I had not had my sons to care for I believe I would have done more terrible things to myself than I did. They were littles at the time - 8, 5, and 3, but they saved me. I rose. Juni0r83
My dad and I share the same name. As a child I was referred to as "little Ian". The name still pops up every now and then (mostly from my eldest cousin). But as I grew into adulthood (around 22ish I guess), people who didn't know me as a child and had to interact with both of us started referring to us as Senior and Junior rather than by our actual names. That was 12 years ago now, and it just sort of stuck. And when we started working in the same office it began to spread. So, in most places online, Juni0r83 (0 for the o to distinguish me from the many people who call themselves Junior, and 83 because it's the year I was born) is the name I go by. It's a name I continuously look at as something I should probably update one day, because I'm a man in my mid thirties, and Junior really feels like the sort of name you give a teenager, or young adult, and would mostly be used in a condescending way. I don't know. It's something I think about anyway. 3 Quote Dwarf Warrior I am today what I made myself yesterday, I will be tomorrow what I make of myself today.
