  1. Hello Could anyone recommend inexpensive running shoes for a potential couch to 5Ker? Thank you.
  2. Hi UberMom well done on getting as far as you have that is a great achievement, I wish you luck with the rest of your journey, you'll do great! I'm a newbie too and have found everyone to be so nice and helpful here so I'm sure you'll find the support you need and advice too if you need it
  3. Thanks I did think of that for about 2 seconds and then realised if I didn't start now I wouldn't start at all. Reading through your reply we do have a lot in common I am currently doing Weight Watchers, have been following the plan for 29 weeks and lost 3 stone 1.5lb so far, though I am always happy to share ideas, you can always learn something new I used to love going out for a coffee but now I have think of coffee as food because of the calories so if I do have one I either bust into my weeklies or go for a skinny something, I do miss being able to just go out for a coffee without having to think about it. I based the weight loss on 1-2lbs a week. I lose on average 2lb a week at the moment unless I have a hiccup like this week lol You are already on your way to Mordor then, we should find the other guys walking to Mordor and cheer each other along, I know there are some others on here that are doing it - it's where I got the idea from I'm still tweaking the actual plan, I want to be doing 20-30 minutes each time. I am lucky enough to be able to exercise when my Son is napping. I work part time evenings and Sundays when Hubby is home to look after our Son. It means Mon-Sat I am home until at least early evening depending on whether I am working so I can fit it in at some point. I hope you find time to do your exercises too Nice to meet a fellow stitcher! I have a project box and folder set up with all my threads etc, sits on the bookcase next to the sofa. Sometimes I find it difficult to choose between stitching, reading or gaming which is why I've set this goal. I am using lemon slices at the moment, didn't think of mint though - a good idea there thanks Ha ha yes I am a FLYbaby too lol, off the wagon at the moment in some respects though I use the principles in other ways - for example exercise. I need to get back on the wagon and start decluttering, planning on having it as my life goal next time round - unless I finish by then.... I think I struggle with the simple things on FLYlady, shining sink etc. I like the concepts though and the 15 minute idea though used before is great. Not sure if you use facebook or if you've seen it but I'm a part of this group http://www.facebook.com/groups/FLYingmommas/ in fact I posted a link to NF on there the other day when I saw the decluttering challenge.
  4. I have sushi rice and nori, I could just make some veg sushi. Not a bad idea - thanks
  5. Thank you Chandra, yes everyone I have spoken to so far have been very friendly and helpful. It is a nice place to be and there is so much inspiration around which is great.
  6. Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone on here could give me some advice. I am holding a 1st birthday party in 2 weeks time and am having a buffet, sandwiches, sausage rolls etc. I have someone attending who can't eat wheat and I am at a loss as to what to provide in lieu of the sandwiches etc. I am doing veg and dips, and non wheat nibbles but need a sandwich alternative that won't cost the earth. Also not sure whether I should provide some alternative to the birthday cake? Any help much appreciated
  7. Thanks KimE Yes I should drink some water, I will go and have a glass - I have some frozen lemon wedges so I'll pop one in my drink. I did do the Angry Bird routine but I did it wrong lol, I will do it properly on Weds - keep going instead of just doing the basic sets. I was so eager to get it done that I skimmed the instructions! Actually I don't feel too bad now and I am glad I decided to do the exercise even if it was only 5 minutes worth! It's a step up from last weeks offerings and I will keep moving forward until I am doing a proper workout 3 times a week - I CAN DO IT!
  8. Hi exjamieus, I'm sorry to hear about your stomach problems, I hope the new diet can help, stomach problems are just horrible. With the exercise side of things are you looking for team sports or happy to go solo, are you looking to try something completely new? Does your stomach cause problems with the exercise side of things? If you haven't seen this already there are some exercise ideas here which you can do in your own home http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/top-posts/ there should be some quite useful articles there to help you
  9. Hey ICB loving your introduction post for this challenge. How are things with you? Are you still doing well with the Paleo? How are you doing with the do something new Goal, be interested to hear what you have done so far
  10. Sounds like you have a pretty busy month ahead of you! How are things going at the moment?
  11. Hi Blackwade, are you still around and reading the boards? Come and say hey to us, pull up a chair and tell us how you are getting on.
  12. Hey Brethren how are things going? Have you tried the 101 Podcasts yet? They do free lessons for samples and then you can pay for basic or advanced lessons and they have downloads and all sorts of helpful info. I am planning on getting back into learning Japanese and found JPod 101 great. Here is a link for the Spanish version http://www.spanishpod101.com/ hope it helps ¡Buena suerte!
  13. I love the way you can find a compromise, I think that's great.
  14. I'm the same I feel weird if I don't weigh in on my allotted day but it's not just about the numbers it's about the overall - how you feel, also sometimes the scales are bad to us yet your measurements will be good to you. We all have off days, it's part of life we can't be "good" all the time and celebrating is a good reason to feast sometimes Hope you had a good time though that is the important thing.
  15. Sounds brilliant, what an experience and what a sense of pride you must all be feeling. I can imagine your first session in the dojo once it is fully finished will be so satisfying.
  16. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, hope you get good news, as good as it can be about your leg. Milythael is right take care of yourself, rest up for now x
  17. Hello I think we all win in this one in the respect that we have to break the walls down between classes and get to know and encourage each other. I am new to NF, been here a week so I am nervous about getting out there are talking to new folk but I shall give it my all. I came over to the Druids first because if I could choose a second class this would be it. So hello Druids good luck with the mini challenge I hope to see some of you over on the Monks section cheering us on It's nice to meet you all!
  18. Hello Xygnis popping over from the Monks to say hi to some fellow NF'ers. I am a newbie too I've started my challenge late and am using it as a practice run to get a good idea how to do it ready the next 6 week challenge so am not doing the points this time round, though I'm not sure if there is any reason you can't. You've got some great goals there. Some suggestions made to me which might help you were to say where I am starting from and how I planning on measuring my success in my challenges. Also to include as much detail as possible as to how I plan on attaining my Goals. Good luck with your journey
  19. Hi Sara, another fellow newbie here *waves. I'm also walking to Mordor, I'm tracking my miles on a spreadsheet at the moment and making myself mini goals to get to each stage. If you are looking for some other quick exercises check out these links http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/top-posts/ I'm starting the Angry Birds Workout this week, aiming to do them when my Son naps. As for the snacking I can only agree with Hiraedd and suggest you bring in nice things to snack on such as grapes, carrot sticks with maybe some healthy dips, a small handful of nuts and such like - not sure about the Paleo diet and what is allowed. You could also maybe try either moving the tempting snacks away from you or maybe bring in some dark coloured bowls for people to put the snacks in, effectively hiding them. Wishing you luck
  20. Hey everyone - a new week for us all. Well mine has started with a disappointment I had a work leaving do yesterday and we had a buffet. I thought I had saved up enough "Weeklies" and I though I did quite well with the buffet - it was all no no food so I had a small plate and only went up once, unfortunately I didn't factor in the Sambucca and I put on a 1lb. I am slightly hungover today but am going to give the Angry Birds workout a go, can't believe I am saying this lol. Got my steps in last week, but won't be going out today. So amending Goal 3 to the following: Goal 3 (Fitness) Exercise 3 times a week The Exercise Levels 40 Jumping Jacks (warm up) LV 1 Minimum 30 Body weight squats 60 sec rest LV 1 Minimum 40 incline push ups 60 sec rest LV 1 Minimum 30 one arm rows 60 sec rest LV 1 Minimum 60 seconds of planks Grading 2 total sets to reach the required number of reps – 3 STARS: advance to the next level 3 total sets to reach the required number of reps – 2 STARS: work towards two sets 4 total sets to reach the required number of reps – 1 STAR: not bad, but you can do better 5 or more sets to reach the required number of reps – ZERO STARS: you have work to do! Cob I swear I replied to your last post but seems I didn't lol, I shall give that a go at some point, countering my moves that is Thanks for the suggestion.
  21. Didn't think of the Wii great idea for a rainy day, thanks Jennieve will check it out.
  22. Thanks everyone your feedback is much appreciated! Can't believe I missed the blog for information, need to sit down and read it properly. Thanks for the links guys I will check them out over the next week or so and start to formulate some sort of work out, one that looks a bit more Monkish. Thanks for the advice on Shadow Boxing, I am terrible at visualisation, however I do own a longish mirror with which I can practice punches and maybe I can create my own type of routine to make me feel more confident. I think one of my problems is I am better with pad work than solo work so I need to work on that. Great ideas there from all of you, am quite excited about trying some new stuff out
  23. Ok so getting ahead of myself here but wanted to pick your brains about future training and some other questions, hope you don't mind. I've never heard of Bodyweight Training but I've googled it and found some info, can you recommend a website that will help me devise a training plan, not sure if gender makes a difference but just in case I am female. I'm looking to strengthen my lower back, and tone up all over. Oh and I have one of those resistance band things, can I use that in any way? Any tips for shadow boxing, I have to do it for grading and always feel self conscious. I don't really know the best way to do it to be honest, I usually just throw out a few kicks and punches but I need to up my game and do a better job. Should I practice what I can remember from my grading book or wait until I get back to class in case I am doing it wrong? Also I need to work on my balance for my kicks any tips for that? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give
  24. As weird as it sounds I'm happy to have the aches and pains, I always feel they show me I have done something. Once I get back to working out properly it will show I have had a good workout
  25. Oh right, interesting did not know you could affect your weight so precisely. Yeah I have to say I struggle with drinking lots of water, even liquids - I tend to forget to drink even with the old have a bottle or glass of water trick. Good luck with the fighting, what sort of match is it?
