Basement Cat
I have a student who doesn't want to be corrected. Their logic: they will never learn to speak properly if I interrupt them (fair enough), but once the whole sentence is out, I should be able to correct it, right? Haha no. It doesn't matter that the sentence is accurate or makes sense at all. It only matters that it was finished. (not!) By far the dumbest student I've had. Having a hard time understanding how a different language works is understandable. Having a hard time understanding the fact that a different language works differently? Not so much. And this is an adult, if you were worried that I was picking on a kid. 1 Quote Current form: Chubby House Cat (lvl4) Weight objective: 20% S. 4 P. 6 E. 4 C. 7 I. 8 A. 4 L. 5 Battle log Current Challenge Handy linky. Raincloak
No one has specifically threatened me in particular, thank God. If they had, I'd be taking steps to protect myself. Yes something bad is going on. Very bad indeed. There's been a spate of shootings at uniformed officers across the country this week, including some piece of shit in Dallas who took a sniper rifle to a peace protest and used it to murder several cops. If that was one incident I wouldn't worry, but it keeps happening. Part of my job involves going to people's homes and ringing their doorbells and talking to them. Because of our community's sick obsession with firearms, I never know who's going to answer my visit with bullets ripping holes in my face. So far, nobody has pointed a gun at me at work, but people have certainly screamed and acted threatening. There is a strong "anti-government" climate here right now and that doesn't mix well with guns. Hell, if they were waving the weapon around and it went off "by accident," I'd be just as dead. In this country there are no real requirements for sanity, safety training, accurate vision, or knowledge of how to operate a gun. Anyone with the cash can get one. And every year, 30,000 people die from them. I purposely cultivate a cute, innocent appearance to minimize hostility at work. But there's really no telling what a gundamentalist will do. It makes me scared, and very pissed off. I don't fear the dogs I deal with. I don't fear knives or clubs or people hitting me; those I can deal with. I do fear getting shot, because I have no power at all to deal with that. oh, and did I mention my twin brother is a cop? He's putting in a lot of overtime this week. The fools who might shoot at me for telling them to get a dog license are far, far more likely to shoot at him for actually enforcing the law. He does have armor, weapons and a partner, but that's not going to save him from a lot of the shit out there. 1 Quote Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. SevenofSeven
I guess it's one thing our Govt did right. Tighten gun laws and make it twice as difficult to get a gun licence, which you need to purchase any type of hand gun or rifle. Automatic weapons are now illegal and hand guns are only allowed to be purchased if you have a licence and a permit of membership to a registered gun club. Doesn't stop idiots going underground and black market, people still get shot but no where near 30 000 a year. Tree house? I'm in! 2 Quote Wait! What............? Link to comment

SevenofSeven
Is there a vocal minority on anti gun reform in the USA? It took one psycho to go on a shooting spree to reform our laws. He killed less people than some of your school shooters and we got scared, but it proved to be a good thing, in the long run, I like to think the victims did not lose their lives for nothing. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/15/it-took-one-massacre-how-australia-made-gun-control-happen-after-port-arthur http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2016/04/28/port-arthur-gun-reform_n_9717980.html We own guns, several rifles, we are responsible for them and their use. We cannot keep them in our bed head, we cannot keep them by the front door, but we have the right to use them for sport. So I am not anti gun at all, just anti idiots with guns. 1 Quote Wait!
