  1. Yesss roll over the sweets challenge! You know you can do it!
  2. In awe of how you workout after night shifts! Doing that killed me! Sad that your visit was a bust - we can only hope for better next time!
  3. Ginger stir-fried octopus sounds divine! I thought of you yesterday, had to get from D floor to J floor of a hospital and decided to go for stairs instead of the lift! I was aching but pleased I did it! Keep up the good work!
  4. Yeah, sometimes it is a little expensive. But compared to how it used to be, where I'd do my normal £15-20 per week food shop, then spend £2-3 extra a couple of times a week buying crisps/chocolates etc, I'd say this is the better alternative! Also are you in the UK or not? (I'm guessing not, given the time-stamp on your post, unless you make habits of browsing at 05.50am!) Because in the UK, Aldi is a good cheap supermarket, and I know many people who decide their recipes largely around the 6 veggies that are in the "Super 6" every week, which are always marked down to 50p or so each. But anyway, thanks for stopping by! DAY TEN (wow already??) - Paleo - not a paleo day today (might have a paleo lunch though, eating leftover tuna salad from yesterday...) - No junk food alone - nope. I will be having dinner with some friends tonight, which will likely involve a pudding, but this is allowed, because it is with friends. - Exercise - I have done my BBWW this morning, 3 reps!! I took slightly longer breaks between each one than normal, but I feel good and strong! I worked out in front of the TV, which plays into the mini-challenge of the week. I could have just sat and stared at the TV, but I used the time wisely and got a workout in - University work - I *should* have time to fit an hour of studying in when I get home from university and before I go for dinner (especially now that my workout for the day is out of the way). I'll have no be focused if I want to get the hour's worth of work done - no procrastinating!
  5. This is the truest of a bunch of excellent advice given above. I always find that I like to start my day off with some exercise - a half hour run or swim at the beginning of the day means I start my studies refreshed and ready to rock it. I then keep to regular breaks for hot drinks and then take a good hour off to cook and eat a meal. I find the hot drink helps me to not snack (because at least I'm putting something in my mouth!) and then when I feel truly hungry I can reward myself with some proper food!
  6. Excellent first week! And excellent Star Wars references, everyone!
  7. Yep - it's too easy to do! So much distraction to be mindful of. The downside of technology today? *deep* EDIT: I get all keen about not watching as much TV and putting my time to useful non-procrastinating tasks... and then instantly schedule a Firefly session! Classic. My excuse is that I am new to Firefly so am still super excited by the whole thing!
  8. You are just about the loveliest person that the internet has introduced me to!
  9. DAY NINE - Paleo day! Woo! Breakfast was (my favourite) sweet potato hash with fried eggs. Dinner was tuna salad wraps - tuna, tomato and chopped pepper wrapped in lettuce leaves for convenient lunchbox enjoyment. I also drank a black coffee and two green teas throughout the day. This evening I ate roasted cauliflower, oven-baked salmon and boiled peas. Love the sheer volume of veggies I can fill up on! - No junk food alone - achieved - Exercise - just completed a pilates video. Was a lot more taxing than expected, especially on the abs! - University work - I had a frustrating day at university, which left me stranded at the campus waiting for a phone call so I could get something done in terms of practical skill, but the call never came. However, it did mean that I got a good 2hrs of work done and then had all of my time for myself once I got home... ... Which brings me to this weeks mini-challenge, which is to consider our procrastination and to put a stop to it. I think the biggest procrastination activity for me is crappy tv. All too often, I sit down in front of the TV (often with a meal/hot drink) and say to myself "I'll get on with that task once this program is finished", and then I inevitably end up watching the next two episodes and an hour is gone. I'm sure many people experience the same phenomenon (at least, I hope I'm not alone!). So, for the rest of the week, I am only going to watch TV if I am specifically watching something. For example, I know that on Thursday, a new episode of The Big Bang Theory will air, so I will sit down and enjoy it for half an hour. And then I will turn the TV off.
  10. Brilliant first week of your challenge! Grade A on almost all of your goals - what a great start! So proud to see other rebels doing so well! I'm always impressed with how well you do, especially with your steps goal, which you've knocked out of the park.
  11. Oooh an addition to BBWW? Like it a lot! Also thank you for being so lovely - your encouragement in my challenge thread almost brought a tear to my eyes
  12. You did so excellently with no sweets last time around - I'm sure you'll be feeling the fantastic benefits within days, especially with the amount of freggies you're taking on!
  13. Good luck on your exam! Would pretending that the exam is an alien work as well?
  14. Quick bedtime update: - Did my BBWW woo only two reps though, I was struggling a little. - Did my university work - Bought a load of veggies to help me through paleo day tomorrow - Tidied up the house (not part of the challenge but made me feel better) - Watched Game of Thrones Night all
  15. Glad to hear you are on track - how was the weekend for you?
  16. Yeeees well done for your first week!
  17. Excellent work on your goals! Sorry to hear about your troubles with LiF. I can only echo what everyone else said that I'm sure she wouldn't cancel without good reason. Hope you're well
  18. @stealthstitcher is right - use your treats for something really worth it! Have you considered eating a couple of pieces of dark chocolate as a treat? I've heard that it helps to curb the cravings in a less-sinful way - plus I believe it is paleo, in moderation (which surprised me) Other than treats, you seem to be doing excellently at eating loads of veggies and going for it with the paleo diet! Keep it up!
  19. Motivation is a good shout for a focus, and I think posting once/week at least to cheer each other on and discuss how well the week has gone would be a good idea. Do we have any scouts involved yet? Might wander over to the Scouts forum if not and hunt out some people...
  20. Thanks for the support everyone! Had a lovely weekend and am looking forward to catching up on your challenges over the next half hour or so! DAY 6 AND 7 - Neither day was paleo, but I did both my paleo days earlier in the week - No junk food alone achieved. Did have a share bag of crisps, but is with two other people so is technically allowed. Considering adding an extra paleo day in week two to make up for it though! - Exercise: on Sunday, the other half and I had a lovely run - 6.4km round a park near where he lives. It's so lovely of him to exercise with me, considering how much slower than him I am! However, I have only done 5 workouts this week rather than 6. The weekend away threw me off a little more than expected. Again, an extra workout in week two should be in order to make up for it. - University work. I haven't done any the past two days, but I am not beating myself up for this - I did well over 3hrs of work on both Thursday and Friday, and only aimed to do 1hr per day for the challenge. So I'm well ahead. WEEK 1 REVIEW Had a good week, in my opinion, but not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I need to think harder about keeping myself on track when I have weekends away - these are frequent because of the long-distance relationship I'm in (although in around a year, we should be able to move closer together, which would be ideal). I achieved my paleo goal and my junk food goals 100% but I missed a workout and a day of work, as I said above. I'm going to commit 100% to all my goals this week to make up for a less-than perfect weekend. DAY 8 Most of today has been spent on a train sadly. - Not a paleo day - No junk food alone - achieved so far, planning on not having any junk food today - Exercise - I'm going to do BBWW today, aiming for 3 reps (was only managing 2 last week, but I want to push myself today!) - University work - going to write up a lecture worth of notes and then revise some practical skills. *phew* long post
  21. So true about seniors expecting you to take lifts! I try and take the stairs as much as possible, but the seniors have none of it! Well done on your challenge so far!
  22. I agree - plus I'm really bad at tracking what I eat - too often I find I've eaten something before I even notice! Well done so far
