HolyHaddock
The BBC has gone for a walk in London Below with James McAvoy, Bernard Cribbins, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cristopher Lee and Anthony Head... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01r527b Quote Link to comment
SkiBlue
Now I can't read the book. I avoid bandwagons as much as I can, and a few good friends of mine highly suggested this book. If BBC is going to be making a television series out of it, with those extremely popular actors, I'm gonna have to wait now. For a while. GRR. Quote LEVEL 1 REBEL Link to comment
Nomad Jay
Interesting. From what I can tell, it's a radio remake of the original Neverwhere TV miniseries. FalseAesop
It was originally a BBC television series, then a book, now a BBC radio play. It's like the reverse of the Hitch Hiker's Guide. Love the book. Never saw the television series. I hope they make it available to American listeners. le bear polar
Really enjoyed listening to this at work! One of the great things about this version is that even though the names are big and you could be easily forgiven for thinking that's mostly what they were hired for, they all put a brilliant spin on their characters. Especially enjoyed Anthony Stewart Head's creepiness and Benedict Cumberbatch's Angel Islington. Quote Make you a sword of me? - Coriolanus Allons-y! Link to comment

BBC made a radio show out of the book, and the book was based on a BBC TV series. All of these things (even the original TV series) were orchastrated by Neil Gaiman so I have high hopes for this desipte the huge names. The book has been on my list for a really long time, but I still haven't decided if I'm going to wait to read the book before listening in on this. I don't think there should be too much bandwagon-y-ness (new word!) going on since its a radio show anyway, and I can't imagine that getting too popular. Erick the Red
I really like the book, and have read it repeatedly over the years. I watched the original miniseries a while back, and I can appreciate why Gaiman decided to wrote the book in order to tell the story in a more thorough, immersive way without bumping up against budget constraints. I have not experienced the new radio play. I am sure I would like it. FalseAesop
They ever get around to making a legitimate way for me to get the radio series in the US? Or shall I be forced by the British into piracy? It's available as an audiobook for $14.95 through iTunes in Canada. It may be available that way in the US as well? Very slightly cheaper through Audible. Quote Behave yourself, badly if necessary. Current Challenge Judo - Shodan My Character Link to comment
FalseAesop
Oh I know about the audiobook, and Neil Gaiman is amazing when narrating his own stuff. I actually listened to the Neverwhere audiobook years ago on a trip down to Florida. I was more wondering about the new full cast production with Benedict Cumberbatch as the angel Islington. Hooded-Warrior
I love Neverwhere! I love most of Neil's stuff TBH. Haha. But Neverwhere's up there. Amy_Pond
I loved this radio play! I love both Neil Gaiman and James McAvoy, so when I found out about it, my reaction was basically I've actually not listened to much in the way of audiobooks or radio plays, so it was a bit of a novelty for me as well. Great for listening to on the train! Quote Amy_PondWood ElfLevel 0STR:0 DEX: 0 STA: 0 CON: 0 WIS: 0 CHA: 0 Link to comment
