20 fluid ounces... ounces and fluid ounces are different.

Unless you are talking about the Imperial Gallon

10 pounds.  However.  Saying "Imperial Gallon" pretty much betrays national origin.  :lol:

 

UK fluid ounces are different from US fluid ounces (welcome to why Imperial measurements are insane).  UK fluid ounces are 28.4ml, US fluid ounces are 29.6ml. UK pints are 568ml, US pints are 473ml.

 

I just looked at it.  Ya it's correct.

 

If I recall correctly

25kg are red

20kg are blue

15kg are yellow

10kg are green

5kg are white

2.5kg are black and

1.25kg are silver.

 

I don't know if the color coding corresponds to something in particular.

 

Added the spoiler to make it shorter.  Thanks!  Looks like the color coding makes it easier to know I loaded both sides the same.  It has happened a couple of times where I pick up the bar and WTF?  It is not balanced.  Check the plates.  35 pounds on one side and 25 pounds on the other.  Oops.  Now I can look at some of these videos and have a better idea how much weight is involved.  Maybe one day I will come up with a crazy mnemonic.

Also, pounds, ounces, gallons, etc are a major source of confusion to me.

This is pretty accurate, sometimes the 5kg are black and the 2,5kg silver.

However, you'd still be surprised at how much people can mess up when loading the barbell even with color coded plates.

Make something idiot proof and they just build a better idiot.

I should take a picture to show you all how messed up the weight racks at my work gym are. No one knows on how to stack them back where they belong. It makes me twitchy sometimes.

Mine has 2 racks, but you would think the curl bar, barbells, and power rack were all part of it... :-D

Sounds like the place I do my workouts atm.. It is sort of a low cost training on your own risk sort of thing, so they have one employed person and customers that are too lazy to put stuff back where it belongs.

We have 1 employee who takes care of it, and she's only in on Fridays. The rest of the time, you're on your own. It makes for some INTERESTING finagaling that occurs.

Pounds are... I don't know what they represent. But they're a pain. Without looking it up, how many pounds does a gallon of water weigh? How many cubic feet would it take up?

We have pennies in England. It's America that misuses the term. Yours are cents. And America had metric currency long before England (which makes the American resistance to the metric system anywhere else utterly baffling).

I'll get the KG version of the chart up tomorrow.  The templates are at work, and today is a SNOW DAY! 

 

Which would be wonderful, except I really wanted to get to the gym.  I guess this would be a good day to do the Recruit Workout from over at Nerd Fitness Academy. I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

I thought that was unique to the gym I go to.  What is with this?  It does not even take one minute to rack your stuff and everybody knows you are done and does not have to waste a few seconds asking who is using that bar.

 

I kind of wonder whether it's a macho show-off kind of thing.  "What kind of wimp can't bench with the big plates on the bar?"  Not for warm-up sets, jerkbutt!

 

(Well, I can't do it for working sets either, but that's not the point.)

 

Leaving the weight on the bar isn't merely annoying for a lot of people. It's a real problem.  Not everybody can easily handle a 45 lb plate, especially if it's not a grip plate.  I can move a 45, but it's a bit tiring to have to sling around too many of them in one session. I also have to be careful of one-sided movements right now due to a little back issue.  The weight room is a bit crowded with equipment, so I often have to reach in and pull it off one-handed.  That's not good.  If I have to twist a little to load it for my own sets, that's my own problem, but I really really don't like risking aggravating my back because someone else is a lazy asshole.

Equivalent? No. Ranger school is much longer which alone makes it harder.

Similar? Yes. In some ways. Think "Ranger lite".
