    • It has been fun!   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been thrown off my game for the last couple of days. I realized rather late that I had a really packed week at work that I needed to get some prep in for, plus I had someone over unexpectedly for an evening. So I haven't gotten more movement in for the last couple of days. I did get some fast walking in today, though not for the best of reasons.   One of my cats has been acting very oddly for the past week or so. Normally terrified of going outside, she's tried to sneak out twice. Went from not wanting anything but try food to meowing incessantly for wet food. Found her, twice, standing in the toilet. Sleeping in weird places, cuddling up to people she previously shunned. Very strange, but not anything that looked like pain. Plus, she's lost a bit of weight. So she went in to the vet today to see what could be up.   The news wasn't great. I already knew that she had early signs of kidney disease, a common enough thing in older cats (she's just turned 15). However, when her bloodwork came back, the kidney disease indicators had spiked really high. The vet wasn't sure whether this was a gradual change (which would be worse) or a sudden spike (better chance of successful reversal) since we only had two data points. She said it was about 50/50 that a treatment would be effective, and given her age no one would think less of us if we chose euthanasia. But since the change in behaviour is recent and she is still showing signs of energy and such, we decided that it was worth one shot to see if it could be turned around. She got a shot of IV fluid, and for the next two days is going in to the vet to be on an IV drip. In two days, we test again. We're hoping that she was dehydrated or sick from something else, then that worsened the kidney situation, putting her off her food, which would again make things worse, etc, and that this is reversible by getting some food in her and dealing with the dehydration. She's eaten really well since getting home, which is a promising sign. But we've been warned that she could start to turn south again once off the IV, or that the treatment might not work at all, and if that is the case, these are her final two days.   So the fast walking was a way of dealing with the unexpectedly bad news.

    • 😱  Where does the time go?  No way is Flyer old enough for gap-year travel.   Good job recovering after an off day.
    • 🥺🥺🥺 I hope he's able to see progress when you go back. A spa massage sounds like a nice reward end goal, though. 👀
    • If it wasn't risky to be in flash flood, I'd laugh and say the flooding means the pool came to you. Hope you continue to stay safe.
    • This waffle sounds amazing!   We are now at the third and last US airport of the day. The flight across the Atlantic has been delayed by an hour. Considering the plane is at the gate already, this is mildly concerning.  Applied flame suppressant in the form of a bacon cheese burger and am now sitting by the gate and waiting for flight updates.   Airport food has an unfairly bad reputation,  both our meals today have been very good.   And I miss the Sidekicks.
    • I think I forgot i was a nerd yesterday. In my defence, my reminder app had a meltdown and lost a load of my subtasks and I don't see how I am expected to function without notes. Better today though. Did a longish, reasonably fast run up the river to Kew Bridge. Banksy, the artist chap, painted a goat in a wall down the road so I went off in search of that. There was a crowd of course. "Let me through, tourists" I said, thwacking them with the back of my hand, "I'm a local".  Anyway, I shouldn't complain, it's nice to see a crowd in England these days and not have it be around a kebab shop trying to make St George proud by er... stealing the contents of the till. Sigh.  Anyway, moving on from depressing recent shittery, my calories were also on point.  Got to stay on target and not miss another day. I'm going to scotland at the weekend to visit flyer who is in Scotland at the moment being a gap-year novelist, and I want to do a long run in the Friday and then challenge myself to run fast in the hotel treadmill in Sunday while we're away.  Strength training  tomorrow I think. Weight room.
