Weight Loss PVP: 10 or 12 lbs in 10 or 12 Weeks! PIRATE EDITION [June 19-September 3, 2023]

Recommended Posts

Ugh.  I signed up and then never posted any updates.  Mostly because it hasn't been going well but I've been focused on other things.  I'm catching up now.

Starting Weight: 263.6

Week 1: 265.9 (up 2.3)

Week 2: 265.8 (down 0.1)

Week 3: 266.1 (Up 0.3)

Week 4: 264.7 (down 1.4)

Week 5: 268.1 (up 3.4)

Week 5: 267.4 (down 0.7)

I am currently up about 4 pounds from starting.  I've been eating a lot recently.  It's the last several weeks before kids go to college, the first time to move away for school for my youngest so I've been struggling with it a bit.  I've been focusing on some of my life hacks to try to minimize the damage from going out to eat but that's not near as effective as not going out at all.  But here we are.  I still have a few more weeks of some extravagant meals as I spend all the quality time with them before they go.

I did get a new gym membership and started doing some lifting again.  I will potentially be working with a personal trainer soon.  I'm hoping these steps will set me up for success once I'm empty nesting and have more time to just focus on healthy habits.

6/21: 267 (my lowest weight in YEARS)

6/30: 269 (up 2 - unexpected funeral while moving)

7/03: 269 (steady...)

7/10: 270 (up 1)

7/18: 272 (up 2)

7/24: 273  (up 1)

7/31: 274 (up 1) - Weekend boat... lies!

I try to do a weigh in both Friday and Monday.

I was at 270 lbs on Friday, woke up to 274.

I did end up facing treats every night. It could have been worst, what I was craving it would have been worst if I didn't have "try better in next meal". Goal of keeping on plan on the weekdays, and sitting down for the weekend treats need to be planned a little bit better.

We just got back home last night from a weekend away and ended up in bed late due to stepping in for a couple softball games last minute so the team didn't have to forfeit. Been gone since Saturday morning, eating out, drinking beer, and not getting enough water ($8 for water AND beer. It really is truly sad when beer costs the same as water... needless to say, I was not exactly okay with spending that much for water when I could get it free from the fountain). Anyway, I slept in and didn't bother weighing in today to log this week so I'll just check in next week. Not that it will be much better as we leave Friday to drop of the kids with their mom for school and head home Saturday (AKA more eating out and traveling) but at least I'll have Sunday to recover.

I'm starting to think I should change this challenge goal to "maintain" rather than any kind of loss. Hopefully the Friday/Saturday travel is it for awhile, but things have been popping up unexpectedly this entire time. I'm so tired. I want to stay home for awhile. My wallet prefers that, too.

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

Travel makes it soo difficult.  Even making the smartest choices while traveling can't keep up with what you would be able to do at home on your routine.  Best of luck to you.

Some good news and some bad news this week.  The good news is that I have managed to lose all of my holiday weight and then some :)

6/19: 79.8

6/26: 79.8

7/7: 78.1

7/10: 77.2

7/17: 77.1

7/24: 76.7

7/31: 77.5

8/7: 75.8

The bad news is that most of the weight loss comes from me having covid and no appetite at all for the last several days :(

This isn't my happiest weigh-in, but considering the long week I just had, it's good enough. Dad came home from the hospital July 28, and he needs SO much help, which is understandable, but I'm wiped out, and admit that Peanut M&Ms have been my emotional support this week.

I dunno how interesting this will be to this group but this is a story of how much water weight matters. I had to make weight for a competition on Saturday and the top of my weight class was 235. A week ago my "walking around" weight was 238ish according to my bathroom scale. In high school I wrestled so I know how to shed a few pounds of water but it involves lots of cardio and sweating and can make me tired. However, I recently had a teammate do a thing where you load up on salts and water for a couple days then cut the salts 48 hours before your weigh in and cut the water 24 hours prior but you don't have to do a bunch of running and biking in layers. So I tried it. I ended up weighing in at 231.4 after following my actual, weight loss diet for the week.

So now I know I'm walking around with 5-7 lbs of just disposable water. This tracks with previous experience when I eat bunch of junk food and bounce up 3 or 4 lbs, seemingly, overnight but can also lose 5 pounds in a couple days if I then clean up my food and move a little more.

Water weight is not a weightloss strategy but if you ever see that day after weight bounce and it gets in your head, I hope you can think back to this and feel confident that it's just water and in a day or two of good choices, you'l be back where you started.

Well there's a pleasant surprise! I peaked on the scale before we left Friday morning (I didn't let it settle and record, but got a general idea) and I was 153.8-ish. It's good to see, despite travel and one day of "recovery" at home, I'm back down to "maintenance". I have until Tuesday morning next week to try to see any kind of loss before I'm traveling again (see spoiler for my thoughts/plans if you're curious - this is more for my accountability).

Food was not the most ideal this week as I only had 3 days to bounce back from travel (we got home Monday night so only had Tuesday-Thursday of eating home-cooked foods and having my routine) before we traveled again (took the kids to the halfway meet-up point so they can go back to their mom's for school. Sad day. Overnight trip Friday-Saturday). Exercise wasn't great either. I've printed out the NF intermediate kettlebell workout and started that this morning (M-W-F) and I'm aiming for cardio or yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We've pre-planned dinners this week so I can go ahead and pre-log. I pulled out my excess chickpea veg curry from a few weeks ago to thaw for lunches this week. I'm pretty much set up as good as one can get. Now let's hope I stick to it all.

Spoiler

I did do research and start making plans for eating out Tuesday (dinner with coworkers once we arrive), Wednesday (lunch with client and solo dinner after coworkers leave - they're driving since they work at HQ, I'm flying since I'm virtual and 4 states away) based on the restaurants in the area. I'll do my best to get a good breakfast at home before leaving and then be mindful of lunches at the airport Tuesday and Thursday (I should, barring any severe delays/cancellations, be home for dinner Thursday). Breakfast Wednesday and Thursday up in the air. I believe I have to leave before hotel breakfast is served Thursday (and, unfortunately all the bakeries and coffee shops open at the same time as hotel breakfast begins) and unsure schedule for client site visit Wednesday so still working out details. I think Thursday (and if needed, Wednesday) I'll get those microwave breakfast bowls from the Walmart next to the hotel. It's not perfect, but 26g protein and 400 calories is pretty dang good, even if it's got preservatives and too much sodium. Beggars can't be choosers. Hopefully, I have drop this week and I can aim to maintain during that trip. This pre-planning, if I stick to it, should avoid real gain and I'll have time before the next weigh-in to drop any water weight from dehydration and/or sodium.

I finally figured out what my food goal for August is.  I'm attempting to eat 800g of fruits and veggies every day.  And it seems to be doing good things for me!  I didn't quite make my goal on Saturday and Sunday, but even then, in trying to hit that number I'm eating a lot more produce than I had been.  Saturday morning my weight actually hit 169.5!  I actually can't remember the last time my weight was in the 160s.  I know it didn't last long, but I was there, and I am confident that if I stick with eating ALL the fruits and veggies I'll end up there for real very soon. :D

Sounds like good planning.  Especially when all the choices are less than ideal you can pick the one that's the least less ideal.  er something.

Alright.  1 pound back in the right direction.  This week is going to be tough though.  I'm going out to the movie with my kids tonight and then entails ordering dinner at the theater.  Dinner our Wednesday with the youngest before she goes off to college, dinner our Thursday with DDG's middle soon to meet the new gf, and then moving my oldest to college on Saturday - which entails at least 1 meal on the road but a built in workout.  We have a lot of unhealthy brunch leftovers from the weekend but I went ahead and grilled some Thai chicken thighs to have with naan and veggies for the dinners I'm eating in this week.

I absolutely agree with you about the water weight. Also, in my experience, a good poo will solve a lot problems too. ?

If anyone wants it H21 now has a formula that will take your latest weekly weigh in and load it into you "current weight" field. To use it click on H21 and hit copy then click on the H cell in your row and paste it. It will adjust to reference your row.

Once again, I really love this. Thanks again.

I have maintained. I am happy with that, especially considering I should be up after this weekend. We spent all day Saturday building a fence. I'm sore and dehydrated since there was no keeping up with that heat and activity no matter how much water I drank. Yesterday I focused on getting water but it takes, typically, 48 hours for my body to release all the retained water after I start re-hydrating. I also feel the most sore 2 days after and boy do I! Today is a heavy dinner so hopefully it doesn't mess up my maintenance goal (stay under 153.0) before travel. I'll stay as active as possible through the day (I'm due for 10k steps anyway) and mind my lunch.

I travel this week (Tuesday-Thursday). I have plans in place based on restaurant research for dinner with coworkers tomorrow night and lunch with coworkers and client Wednesday, assuming we go to one of those restaurants I figured was most likely. No solid plans Wednesday night as I'm on my own, but I have a few options written down that are thought out. Fortunately Wednesday we are expected on site at 8am so I will have time to get the continental breakfast at the hotel. I'll grab some extra foodstuffs that will hold overnight for Thursday as I'll be leaving before breakfast is served. Pending no delays or other travel issues, I'll be home in time for dinner Thursday.

I also have a body weight workout set for Wednesday evening to make up for not doing my usual kettlebell workout on Wednesday morning. I did one already this morning and another planned for Friday. I plan on walking as much as I can at the airports while traveling to get in movement/activity and get my steps.

As of now, this is the last of my travel until November (personal) since my September business travel was cancelled. Hopefully I can maintain through this week and then focus on dropping something before the end of the challenge once I'm back.

Up again but still down, barely, from 2 weeks before.  Honestly, I'm surprised it wasn't more.  There was a LOT going on this past week and I ate out and ate poorly a lot.  It was all a lot of fun but it's taking it's toll.  My body is not happy.  I am taking a long weekend to move my youngest up to college this coming weekend.  It's 9 hours from home but my brother lives there so I'll also have family to visit.  It'll be a busy and emotional weekend, plus travel, so I expect more bad eating.  I wasn't feeling well most of last week either so the gym got put on the back burner.  I'm trying to make the most of the few days before we head out but then it's back to reality next week.  (and then there'll be only 2 weeks before our trip to the MN state fair)

NINE HOURS!!!!!! NINE HOURS!!!!!

Up slightly from last week, which is kind of amazing because I was on plague protocols.  Those protocols meant I was sitting around all day getting no movement and and a few snacks almost every day. This week should be better as I am now pretty much recovered.

Up slightly this week, but I think that's mostly because of the time of the month.

800g is a LOT of fruits and veggies if you're not eating something heavy like watermelon. I have been having mixed success hitting my goal, but I'm still eating a lot more of them than I was!
