Sounds like a fun plan to do match your weight loss up with the football season.Every 7 pounds you lose is a touchdown!

If I can score 5 TDs by mid-February, I'll be very happy (and a little surprised). I can do it! :victorious:

I know! This quack is about 20 years behind when it comes to nutrition. He wants me to THROW AWAY THE YOLKS and eat only the egg whites!!!!! I tried to tell him that eggs got out of jail a long time ago, but with a 255 total cholesterol, I couldn't really make a strong case.

I'm glad he didn't insist on a statin for my cholesterol. When I go back in 6 months with healthy blood work and closer to a healthy weight, I can throw his vegetarian diet right in his face. :congratulatory:

Well, I've had a couple of pretty good days. I am working at keeping my carbs under 100g per day. THAT'S HARD!!! For me, anyway. Once I get comfortable with portions, I'll quit counting and obsessing every day. As of today, I'm down over 4 pounds since July 11. Slow and steady.

I finally got around to trying a Boss Challenge in my Academy workouts. Got through it on the second attempt, and leveled up.

So far, so good.

Good luck with your cholesterol! I really like Elastigirl's idea about every 7 lbs being a touchdown. Not sure about your doc though. The Blood Type diet is definitely a weird fad diet sort of thing. I'm surprised he suggested it. It wasn't that long ago that I read something about another study that completely debunked the "eggs increase your cholesterol" thing. Of course I read another article that said that doctors get very little nutritional training and if they don't keep up with new research, it's even worse.

Weight loss Buddies, my Dr has insisted I lose weight because everything I have going on is weight related............but, bugger him, I want  to drop the weight for the competitions next year. Two weight classes if I can! Yessss to Paleo/Primal. He wanted me to do the shakes thing.........just no. Tried to explain to him that my training sort of needed me to eat real food, he was shocked that I was powerlifting, although we have had this conversation many times.

I'm also A-neg, never thought anyone could be allergic to beef ;) mmmmmmmm steak!!!

Great news about Brother. :)

I think I've FINALLY decided I need to do this for ME. True to my contrary nature, I haven't been able willing, to lose weight because someone said I should.

I lost a lot of weight once before, but I didn't have a good enough reason to keep it off, so back it came. Mid-life/menopause doesn't make it any easier, either.

I'm definitely a volume eater, so as long as the bulk is in the form of vegetables, I'm good. I've gone two weeks keeping my daily average carbs right around 100g. That's huge for me, and I can feel the difference. I think hope I'm approaching the holy grail of being fat-adapted.

I've decided I like my doctor, but he's sadly misinformed about nutrition, and that's fairly common. I'll forgive him that and show him in 6 months that I know how to lose fat and attain healthy blood chemistry.

Good Morning.

I have had two mornings where I'm waking up 1-2 hours early and not going back to sleep. I don't get it.

Otherwise, things are going well.

Yesterday was a SPLURGE day. We went out for a date day at our favorite casino; I won some money and we went to the Apple store and bought two new iPads. (Ours were 4+ years old.) We kitted them out with the fancy covers and everything. Keeping the splurge alive, we stopped at Raising Cane's on the way home and had chicken and fries.

We had planned on a walk around the lake (2 miles) somewhere in there, but I had on the wrong shoes (Inner Brat at work), then once we got home, we had new toys to play with.

This morning after coffee, we have a walk planned, then I have my weekly cook-up to do, then a workout.

So far, so good.

I think I've figured out my sleep problem, or part of it anyway. I'm anxious about work and have been indecisive about retirement planning--when, how, where, etc.

DH and I had a nice talk about it on our morning walk. After we got home, we worked on some numbers and I came to the decision that I will be retired (from my current job) by my birthday in late April. I will have--and want--to work part time to supplement our income, but I have made the decision to leave the casino business. Now that I've got that settled in my head, I don't think it will keep me awake any longer.

I have a lot to do to get ready, but now I have the start of a plan.

I'm <this> close to a 7-pound weight loss since I've started tracking. Touch Down!!!

And my pants are getting baggy. That's the best part.

I'm keeping my daily carb count at close to 100g or less and it's working! I had a couple of days with carb-flu, but I feel pretty good now. Workouts are getting easier and we're walking farther.

  • I did my measurements today and was a little disappointed. I know I haven't achieved the consistency that I need to see real results, so there's that.
  • In my workout, I did increase weights on some and reps on some exercises and I'm happy about that. I felt like a real badass with 12kg presses.
  • I've been sleeping better. Not longer, but better. That's a good thing.
  • Mentally, I'm feeling more settled.

Now.... Keep going.

Sorry your measurements were disappointing. Excellent news on your weights though and any improvement in sleep is a good thing. I had to stop looking for progress in the scale and measurements a while back. Now the only progress I pay attention to is what new things I can do and how I feel. It makes it easier to keep going and it seems like eventually the scale and measuring tape will have to show progress as well.

Thanks!

That's a good way to look at it--though it's hard to be patient. I think I'm doing everything right and dammit, I want to see new numbers. :fat:

I definitely know how you feel! Not seeing progress on the scale was making cranky so I stopped making good choices. Then I saw changes on the scale, the WRONG kind of changes. I didn't want to lose all the progress I'd made so I had to decide to look for my progress elsewhere. I still have days where I curse the scale and feel like giving up. So for the most part, I don't weigh very often.

Saturday morning and back to work after three days off and five (5)!!! medical appointments. Getting old is a tough job. Two appointments were annual stuff. One was bone density scan. The others had to do with some abnormalities being detected in my thyroid. Now I have to get a biopsy.

On the upside, I'm slowly shedding some fat.

But...I missed some workouts and walking and chose to wallow in some self pity. And I know that exercise is good for my mental health.

I'll be OK.

Friday, October 21

Yay! A day without a medical appointment and no other commitments. Yesterday was the fine-needle biopsy on my thyroid. The doctor reminded me that the vast majority of this type of tumor or growth is benign--at least 95%. My PCP with get the results on Monday, so I won't worry until I have something to worry about. I have no symptoms, and it's just coincidence that I'm at this point in the testing. My thyroid tests normal in bloodwork, but is trending toward hypo since last test three years ago.

I also got the summary results of my DEXA scan. It shows more bone loss over the past 7 years, but I don't understand much of the jargon, so I'll have to have my doctor explain it in detail.

My rambling leads me to this: I have some solid reasons to eat clean and lift heavy--->>> Fire up the fat burner and strengthen bone and muscle.

It was nice not having any appointments, other than the landscaper coming to winterize the sprinkler system--and that took less than 10 minutes. I did my weekly cook-up, but it was easy, since I had planned low-prep meals for the week. Aren't I clever? :adoration:  DH was happy with the less-than-normal clean up in the kitchen. In all fairness, I'm not a sloppy cook most of the time.

I have two nice big bruises on my neck where the biospsies were done. I'll tell people a huge Vampire got me....

I managed to do workouts as planned on Wed and Fri, but did not get the walking done that I had intended. I don't know how everyone averages over 10k steps a day. I have to work to get to 8k. I don't have a Fitbit or other gadget, just the app that came with my iPhone. Not very accurate and I don't always have my phone with me, but still...

Definitely the right season to tell everyone a vampire got you! As for the steps, I started out just trying to get 6,000 a day. After a while that got easy and I increased it. I just kept doing that. If you don't always have your phone on you, that probably makes a difference. I'm surprised with how many steps I get when I'm just home doing stuff.
