Eye of the World by Robert Jordan.  I may be opening a can of worms here, it is the first book in what I belive is the longest fantasy series ever written at nearly 4.5 million words.

I'll throw out "The Thin Red Line" by James Jones again.  I've recently made a list of books I own that I have to read through before I can buy any other books, but I'll make an exception for whatever NF picks.

The path to Swolehalla is paved with a lot of Swolehate, and you won't get there without being Swole of Spirit too.

Mindy, I almost gave you a 1 day ban, then realized that power was taken away from me, then read the rest of your post.

haha I wonder why it was taken away

I debated putting the "I'm kidding" part in white text so that I could see reactions...and then couldn't bring myself to let people think that poorly of me.

I'm not going to lie, I would have judged you ha!

Hi all, I am new to the group and would love to have a good reason to read.

Has any one read Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson?

I'm cool with whatever the group decides. I read everything except "romance"/"historical fiction".

there is never a sudden revelation, a complete and tidy explanation for why it happened, or why it ends, or Why or Who you are. you want one and I want one, but there isn't one. it comes in bits and pieces, and you stitch them together wherever they fit, and when you are done you hold yourself up, and still there are holes and you are a rag doll, invented, imperfect. and yet you are all that you have, so you must be Enough. there is no other way.

I've wanted to read Ready Player One for a while, so I agree with that. I've also been considering starting the Wheel of Time series (I read the first few years ago but quit) but I just started Song of Fire and Ice so I don't know that I want to juggle two epics like that.

How about a bit of a classic, like The Count of Monte Cristo? That was a favorite of mine in high school, and I'd love a reason to reread it.

I'm in!  I love all sorts of books, so far the only thing I've seen suggested that I've already read is the Terry Goodkind series.  So hopefully the group decides on something new.

I'll throw it out  there - "Physics of the Impossible" Michio Kaku

Saying hello to the book club!

Always looking for a new book to read or reread. I'm cool with Eye of the World, it's about time for me to reread the Wheel of Time before the final book comes out in paper back. (They have to match, can't have a random hardcover version in there.)  But if not, I'd suggest "I am Not a Serial Killer" by Dan Wells, It's a YA horror novel that is from the perspective of a kid with anti-social personality disorder.  I feel its a great example of first person storytelling.
