Gainsdalf the Whey
So anyone else read them? I used to be a big fan of quite a few and kinda lost track over the last year or so. I caught up to my two favorites (Questionable Content and Girl Genius) recently. The others I need to catch up on and will begin to, in no particular order, are: Erfworld, Order of the Stick, Kiwi Blitz, and PvP. I used to also read Penny Arcade, but it got less enoyable as I lost touch with current gaming news and games they were playing since I stopped playing as much when I got out of college. Anyway, I wanted to see who else reads them and share my love for them. I'm also going to keep a list below of the ones mentioned, including a short description. I'll edit the post as we come up with more. Let's only to the safe for work ones since I won't be looking at the NSFW ones, though some of those are good too. If you want yours added, please provide links and descriptions. Collected Curios - Three separate comics: Spider and Scorpion (random), Battle Bunnies (epic fantasy) and Sequential Art (hilarious wierdness with robots, aliens, romance and revenge). Ctrl+Alt+Del - Humorous commentary on video games, plus a comic.Ctrl+Alt+Del Sillies - Simple sketches from the Ctrl+Alt+Del universe.egscomics - A science-fantasy gender-twisting epic with more than a decade of continuity. Erfworld- A guy gets sucked into a tabletop gaming world based around stuffed animals and other fluffy things and must live and wage war within itFreefall- The adventures of a squidlike alien with species-appropriate backwards morality, an artificially intelligent humanoid wolf, and an AI robot with the mental capabilities of a young child. It makes sense in context.Garfield minus Garfield - Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.Girl Genius- Steam Punk Europa where super smart nerds (called Sparks) invent crazy things and battle for power General Protection Fault- software development humor and a whole lot moreGoblins - what if somebody made a DnD campaign where you played goblins.Kiwi Blitz- Girl wants to be a super hero with her mech. Fairly new when I started reading it, so there may be a better description now.Least I Could Do - umm... not sure how to describe this, but its usually pretty goodLooking for Group - life in your ordinary MMOManly Guys Doing Manly Things. Think "Who Framed Rodger Rabbit" Toon Town rules for Video Games and Movies. Commander Badass (he's from the Space-Future) runs a temp agency for RIDICULOUSLY MACHO GUYS, from video games and movies. He's surprisingly level headed and laid back having to deal with hot heads like Kratos. Everything I said is true, but the comic is so much more than that. It is smart, and has surprising depth as it dissects stereotypes, cliches, tropes, and archetypes about what is manly.MegaTokyo-two geeks lost in alt-Tokyo & hijinks that followMokepon. Yeah it is a pokemon webcomic. Solid art and good storytelling. It follows Atticus, a chain smoking 14 year old who really doesn't want to be a trainer and his Charmander "Dragonthing". The writer is British and it does show through. Very funny and at times incredible cruel and mean spirited.Order of the Stick- A tongue in cheek play on D&D with the trials and tribulations of the party, consisting of sterotypical character types.Penny Arcade - Webcomic focused on video games and video game culturePvP- The trials and tribulations of a bunch of nerds that work at a small gaming magazine publishing company.Questionable Content- "Hipster Friends" is the best description I can think of for this. This is probably my favorite.Shortpacked! The trials and tribulations of working in a toystore. Musings on pop culture, toys comics, and wacky hi-jinks. Also showed the world that Batman can breathe in space.Shotgun Shuffle - A Blonde moves in with a Brunette and hi-jinx follow. Haha... not sure how to else to describe it. Sinfest -(taken from Wiki) The subject matter of Sinfest is often human nature, with particular attention paid to human sexuality, gender roles, addiction and religion. Less frequently, the strip will parody popular culture or indulge in political commentary. And no worries, it's SFW despite it's name.Sore Thumbs? Seriously fourth-wall-breaking generally-inappropriate suspiciously-well-drawn and hilarious comic ostensibly about a game shop, and actually about EVERYTHING ELSEThree Panel Soul - Just drawings about the guy's life... sorta....XKCD - A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. Not "webcomic" but worth mentioning.Dilbert - All of Dilbert's strips are posted online as well as the "ole fashion" way.XKCD what if? - Answering your hypothetical questions with physics, every Tuesday. Choronodon
I used to follow MegaTokyo (two geeks lost in alt-Tokyo & hijinks that follow) and General Protection Fault (software development humor and a whole lot more) religiously, but it's been a long time since I've checked in on them. The four (five) I check the most frequently now are Least I Could Do - umm... not sure how to describe this, but its usually pretty good PVP - geeks at gaming magazine Ctrl+Alt+Del - riffs on gaming Looking for Group - life in your ordinary MMO Goblins - what if somebody made a DnD campaign where you played goblins? Gainsdalf the Whey
If you want them to be added ot the list, do like chrono did and give me a link and description. I LOVE Girl Genious, I just get mad at how it only updates 3 times a week, though it's compeltely understandable with the complexity and detail of their art. The only other thing that bothers me is how slow the sotryline moves. The were fixing the castle for something like 2-3 years. Hero
xkcd like most peeps. Here's one for all of us: I also read Least I Could Do, but something I haven't seen yet is Dinosaur Comics! ( http://www.qwantz.com/index.php ) Here's the about from the website: "Dinosaur Comics is a comic about talking dinosaurs! It appears online and also in print in some newspapers and magazines! There is an RSS feed and a LiveJournal feed and a Twitter feed for the comics. If you want to learn more there is always the Dinosaur Comics Wikipedia entry, filled to the brim with wild half-truths and innuendo. If you want to support the comic, maybe buy the book or some sweet merchandise? They're awesome I PROMISE." Quote Hero's First Challenge, Again! - "I knew pig-moles were a bad idea..." Thrillho
The first is NSFW occasionally. There's no swearing and no nudity, but the subject matter is mature. Probably half of them are G-rated. The second is very G-rated, no swearing or nudity, just sarcasm and slightly more mature themes than most webcomics. Quote The cancer was aggressive, but the chemotherapy was aggressive, as well. bjjgrrl
I use Comic Rocket to find, read, & track webcomics. (Though it's a little too easy to find more and more and more...) You can also create a custom "Archive Binge RSS" feed, so you can have X number of archives from a comic sent to an RSS feed on X days. I used that catch up with a lot of the longer running ones. Don't know if everything's in there, but there sure are a lot. My favorites are Girl Genius and Erfworld. Also Earthsong, Gunnerkrigg Court, and The Phoenix Requiem (this last is finished, but it was good). Quote Link to comment
Shereads
I've been following Girl Genius for a long time. It's where I started reading web comics. I read Door until the artist moved on. Alien Dice, Earth song,Twilight Lady, Bear nuts, Family man,Fey winds,Lavender legend ,Half light,The becoming, Dark white, One wish. Those have been fun so far. I really like the Bear nut's series. My kids think it is a hoot. The Forgotten order has picked up in publication and it is a new one that I am waiting with baited breath for the next page. Namesake is a good one too. That one I like to let go and read a chapter all at once.I think some of them have taken vacation and others work slow but those are some of the ones I'm currently following, I try to keep NSFW out simply because my workspace is all kids under 18.
