Weight Loss PVP: 10 or 12 lbs in 10 or 12 Weeks! HOLIDAY BONUS EDITION [September 11-November 27, 2023] [With December Holiday Bonus Weeks]

Recommended Posts

I just got back from a 5 month trip from home and this is perfect to get me back into the groove. I don't except to lose too much weight since I haven't actually had a proper workout in quite awhile but it'll still be fun to see how much I end up losing :)

Time to drop a few kilos again. They just crept up a little bit in the last few months what with knee injury and comfort eating. Am able to workout consistently now but gotta dial in those portions and sugar. Look forward to venturing forth together!

Oop double post. My prep work today involved reoragnising the pantry, which is a couple years overdue. Wanted to share the results as I am very pleased. I have ADHD and struggle when I can't see things to know that they exist. So I am hoping this will help me with food prep and reducing waste too.

I've been a little lost and distracted since my trip, but I'm announcing that I'm focused and present again in our group here. Dad's last day of Cardiac rehab is today, and we're all really excited to have a little less running back and forth and more time just settling in for the holidays.

What's your holiday game plan? Mine is shifting my focus from food to festive activities  like decorating and listening to music . Also trying to slow down a bit and not get caught up in the MORE MORE MORE! commercialism of the season.  I'd like to get back to my exercise schedule from last month too, it really worked well for me!

That's a great plan.  I haven't really though about it.  I'm still in No Excuses mode to make as much progress as I can before holidays so I can splurge on those isolated days (not the whole season)...  Although I'm not actually making any progress so we'll see what happens.  I need to break this plateau before Thanksgiving!

I don't have one yet and food is always my favorite part, so I'm glad you asked so I can think about it.  Would really like not to be totally derailed over the holidays, but also want to enjoy the food as much as possible.

Very much get the commercialism bit; my fam has decided that for the most part this year we're either going to get thrifted or homemade gifts for one another, or just not give gifts if we are only buying them to fulfil an obligation.  That said, I've already purchased some new things (because they were a better fit) but I like that we've gotten to the point where we just won't buy stuff if we don't find "the right" thing; that way we'll just get things for one another at a different time in the year if/when we find something.  Should be good.  It's a nice step in the right direction, at least.

Been getting back into some exercise lately, too.  Very minor, but it feels great.  Good luck with getting back into a routine!  :)

You’ll break it! I believe in you! I do like your No Excuses mode. I need more of that in my life.

I think its possible to have that balance! I’m looking forward to your ideas!

My holiday game plan is: try to lose as much weight as possible before the holidays. Then overeaty nonsense whenever there's a family dinner or get-together, and back on the wagon the day after. Or at least once the leftovers are gone.

Basically, I'll be happy if I can keep the weight increase under 5 pounds by January 12th, and be back at the December 23rd weight by the end of February... ??

I'm really glad that Thanksgiving is not a thing here...

y... ??

That sounds reasonable. I had a friend who had holiday jeans that were a size bigger. She said "When these get snug, I know I have to reel it in."  and then she'd exercise and go back to her regular eating habits and lose weight again. But also, she was 23 at the time. I don't know if she still does it at 40. LOL

My family used to really use it as a pig out session, but now everyone is older and has health problems that really keep them from doing that. Also, everyone brings a dish to the table, so no one is stuck cooking everything and that's a LOT better than having one poor person stuck cooking everything.  I just have to be mindful not to stress-eat cookies when I'm trapped by my more annoying relatives.

Smashed the 20-lb mark (21.4 total) with two weeks to go!  B)  Not looking likely that I'll hit 27, but I might could get to 25 which would still be an outstanding result; and I'll almost-certainly break the 220-lb barrier in early December as long as I don't go overboard with Thanksgiving and birthday shenanigans.  My holidays plan is to just keep doing what I'm doing.  ?

Down about half a kilo today, hooray! Been moving quite a lot this week, and being just awee bit more restrained in terms of indulgent food, and thinking more about eating healthy food during the day. I think. Ican keep tuning that in.

Quick Q - the spreadsheet hasn't updated my percentage loss. I think it might be cos I'm using kilos instead of pounds?

Up a pound.  Not really worried about it since I weighed in early and also ate a crazy amount of food on Friday but was pretty darn self-restrained the rest of the week and so am thinking this may still be me recovering from Friday.  Going to be away this week and so will have to be extra careful not to go crazy on eating while travelling.  If I can break even next week I'll consider it a big success.  If I can be under this week's that would be even better.  Will likely weigh in next Tuesday, as I am not going to be back until later on Monday and I try to weigh myself in the morning each time to keep some stuff consistent.

Good luck to the rest of you this week!  :)

I don't think my solution is actually a good one but I basically try to ignore the holidays except when I literally can't. I can't work out on Thanksgiving and Christmas day but I don't let the whole season become an excuse to miss the gym. I write out my training plan with the necessary holes in it for days the gyms are closed but otherwise keep it as tight as possible.

I've never tracked my food through the holidays and to some degree I don't know how much I will this year. On everyday that isn't an actual holiday I'm going to stick to my food tracking, which means telling family "if you send me home with those cookies they'll just get thrown away" and sticking too it because I don't need "holiday treats" sitting around. On the actual holidays, I"m not going to be sitting at the table with my food scale, weighing things but I plan to be as moderate as is reasonable. However, I'll also tell myself "you can't gain a pound of fat by relaxing at this meal".

In all likelihood I'll gain a pound or two but I know that I'm doing a weight loss phase on the new year so I'll deal with those pounds then.

No idea how I manage to get the same average to the tenth of a pound across three week. I had heavy days and light days. I messed around with new vitamins which meant a shift in water being held in my body. But over the course of the three weeks I averaged the same number per week. I guess I feel I can confidently say that I know what my actual weight has been this month.

I woke up today feeling really good. I'm well-rested, nothing hurts, and I'm ready to go! So I'm not ignoring that I've gained weight, but I'm appreciating that I feel healthy today. I'm not changing my goal in the spreadsheet; I acknowledge that losing 9 pounds is gonna be unlikely, but I know myself well enough that I'll feel defeated if I change it, like I'm giving up. No giving up! Let's see how much progress I can make. It'll be fun!

13/11: 91.85 kg / 202.5 lbs (+1.55 / +3.4)

Had a week off with friends, which is usually coupled with far too much food (and even more alcohol than I'm used to), so I skipped a week of logging.

But then I had a bike accident on Thursday which has left me with a sprained AC joint, and which caused me to completely forget about my Friday weigh-in. I was more concerned with "how is the shoulder feeling this morning?".

Forgot about it again on Saturday and Sunday, so did it today. This is after a weekend with moderate eating, so I suspect the weight is higher than it would've been on Friday.

Not sure how this is going to proceed. The injury is making workouts difficult and the constant rain here is making me skip far too many walks for comfort...

Well that came out of nowhere.  I was really struggling most of the week.  I was doing all the right things; staying well under my calorie budget especially since activity is low due to back issues.  I was starting to think it was never going to budge and then it just did.  Another reminder to myself not to get discouraged and just keep doing the things.  This coming week will be tricky with 2 nights out in a row.  I'll really have to bring my A game when ordering and use my life hacks.

Recovering is your top priority right now. You can keep your healthy diet to promote healing and reduce inflammation, but when you're hurt, you gotta heal. We won't throw shredded cheese at you for that.

Whatever was going on that was causing me to be all bloated and my digestive track to be inflamed is finally easing!  Huzzah!  Because, in addition to the number being back to something reasonable I am feeling much better.  Things aren't 100% sorted out yet, but it's way better than it's been for the last couple weeks.  Wish I knew what I did that set that off, because I'd much rather not do it again.

My plan for the holidays: enjoy all the delicious holiday foods in moderation, and try to keep eating normally otherwise.  But, I've also just switched to survival mode for the rest of the year.

Saturday's weigh in was actually not bad. And this morning I'm only up 1/2lb after 2 days of not paying any attention to my goals whatsoever. I'll take it!

I have a work conference on Thursday my old manager wants me to go to with her - she's flying in from Kansas to Texas while I'm only an hour and a half away. It'll be good - I never got to meet her in person before as she was always gone on work travel when I traveled to Kansas hah! Hopefully that one day won't be an issue - I'll have to make something up for my breakfast and see what they're doing regarding lunch. I plan on heading home for dinner, though. All other meals between now and then will be at home, though.

On Friday we leave out of town as we have a 5k race early Saturday morning - we'll eat out Friday night and likely have an early dinner on the way home Saturday after the race. Then 2 nights home to try to recover before more travel again Tuesday for Thanksgiving. Hoping to get back on track and see a bit of a loss before Tuesday. It's time to buckle down!

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

What is survival mode?

Survival mode is basically putting all my diet/fitness improvement goals on hold while I try to get through a very busy and stressful time with my sanity intact.  Maintenance of my current weight would be great, weight loss would be a huge bonus, but I'm not really making an effort in that direction right now.

Also LOOK AT YOU!!! I better watch my footing, cause all these plateaus are breaking today!! :D

I mean, it looks like a big drop, but that's because I had a big jump that was never "real" in the first place.  I did/ate something that made me hella bloated and basically "gained" 3lbs overnight, that I held on to for a few weeks, and "lost" again as my body finally got over whatever the issue was.  Though, the current 0.9 lbs down vs when I started is nice, and also hopefully real.  Guess we'll see about that as the rest of the challenge goes on. :)
