I started out with forum RP'ing, later I was pulled into D&D 3.5Sold all my books about 1,5 years ago, thinking I'd never pick it up again, until recently my boyfriend said he'd like to give it a go.We got some friends together and decided to play 5e. I think the overwhelmed feeling came from having too many options, sort of freezing my ability to come up with a good storyline (and constantly judging every idea I came up with with "that's not good enough"), but watching the CR vid plus reading a bit in Robins Law got my creativity going - plus telling the voice to piss off helped as well. I found the structure that Matt talked about (one town, factions, how to shape the NPCs) very helpful and by now can't stop writing and coming up with new ideas. Success!! 2 Quote Link to comment

You could go even smaller (a castle or a single ship). "Robins Laws" is real gem. Before reading it i never thought about different player types and motivations at the table. Anyway, i think it will get way easier as you gain experience. I'm interested in how your next sessions are going. Would love it if keep us posted. This month i will try to wrap up a Game of Thrones Campaigne. The next session is on August the 30th. Really looking forward to see how the final showdown plays out. 1 Quote Link to comment
Chen Wangting Posted August 15, 2015 Report Share Posted August 15, 2015 Two other things came to my mind: 1. For the first adventures you write yourself, i would go with a mission like structure. I think it's the least complicated adeventure type. So it's basicly that some asks or orders the characters to do a thing for him and rewards them after it.Examples:* "Please rescue my son from the bandit camp in the woods".* "This village is in dire need of food.
