2024, January 1- March 18: Weight Loss PVP: 10 or 12 lbs in 10 or 12 Weeks!

Recommended Posts

Week One (For me) progress - + 0.8 lbs.

Well that looks pretty crappy but until this morning I was actually running at a pretty good loss. Went out for dinner with the family yesterday and this is where the upswing was, Expecting a bigger drop next week so not crying about it!

If it's not siesta or fiesta, I'm not interested.

Still not up to my record high from last May, but far worse than I was when the holiday season started.  I will get back on board the train after Chinese New Year

Sounds good!

Whoops, forgot to post on Friday when I did the weigh-in.

05/01: 95.90 kg / 211.4 lbs

15/01: 95.20 kg / 209.9 lbs

19/01: 94.15 kg / 207.6 lbs (- 1.05 / - 2.3)

These were pretty much the results I had expected the previous week, so... back on track?

This was despite a week of lower activity. Because of the snow and icy conditions, there were fewer walks than usual, especially on Wednesday to Friday, which are generally the days where I get the most walking done. And I opted to work from home on both Thursday and Friday because Belgium doesn't exactly have a good track record of keeping smaller roads and bike paths clear when it has snowed. I had no intention of risking falling with my bike, so working from home was safer. But working from home - especially if I don't go on walks either - leads to very few steps and very little calorie expenditure...

Sunday was a meet-up with our friends at our place, so it turned into a food extravaganza as usual. And now we have plenty of leftovers in the house, so next week's results are going to be iffy... ?

Falling off a bike is no joke. working from home was smart!

I am not concerned. We had hint of lime tortilla chips last night with buffalo chicken dip.  It was delicious and salty. I'm going to eat a banana and drink a lot of tea today.  I've also hurt my foot a little bit, which is annoying because I'm very dependent on my feet. It's nothing serious though. I'll take care of it today and hopefully tomorrow it's loads better.

I decided to take a break from counting calories for a bit and just trust myself to eat well and exercise. I figure if I'm not making progress by February, I'll go back to it. I'm also not wearing the fitbit for a few days. Both things are causing frustration and I that may be an indicator that I'm either ready for a break or maybe ready to move on from it. We'll see in a couple weeks.

I've hit a bit of a speed bump this week with my weight just kind of hanging out at 203. Making no real changes this week but if it continues to flounder I'll need to look into going to down to 2000 calories next week.

Potentially a rough week getting back into the workout groove after a week off. The Man is starting a workout challenge with our good friends (they all work for the same company and it's a company thing) today so he's up early on the Peloton. That should keep me fairly accountable. Been doing okay food wise but need to control portions a bit better. Had a couple instances of backtracking into the so-stuffed-it-hurts realm I used to live in regularly. Not worth it. Meals planned (lunches and dinners) and workouts tentatively planned (if the weather cooperates. Not running outside in a thunderstorm, for obvious reasons) and backup plans in place. Feeling pretty good about this.

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

I know. The last two times I fell with my bike, I suffered minor injuries. As in: a tennis elbow, and a sprained AC joint.

It's not just bruises and scratches anymore, which may be an indication that I'm no longer 24... ?

It has definitely made me more careful and scared...

The weekly average still seems to be trending down nicely though - personally I'd maybe give it a couple of weeks before adjusting your calorie count.

I broke 170lbs! Next stop will be 12 stone (168lbs) and then 75kg (165lbs). (You get a lot more milestones if you mix your measurements  ). I've also gone down a belt loop, which is very pleasing.

Not entirely sure how I've lost anything this week - had a massive blowout on Friday and ended the week 1,555 kcal over target. So I might see a delayed effect of that and a smaller change next week; we shall see.

I mostly expected a slow down this week due to some higher eating days, but Friday's weight check was a half-pound lower so I didn't anticipate the sandbag number on Sunday morning.  That's fine, it'll just pad the coming week and make 01-28 look even more impressive.  B)  Small drop - big drop seems to be my pattern right now.

Another Monday weigh in a pound heavier than Sunday for no good reason.  Maybe because it's Monday and I don't sleep as much as I did over the weekend?   But I'm pleased with the progress.  I even managed to eat out Friday night and not negatively impact the scale.  I'm right where I want to be.

Red goal is 1 pound a week; green goal is on track to lose 15% body weight over the course of the year.  I am right in the window.  Slow and steady.

I seem to be bouncing up and down the same half a pound. This is not the progress I was hoping for, but at least it appears I'm maintaining rather than gaining. Honestly, it's been a crazy stressful week and I haven't been as on top of my eating as I would have liked.

Today though, I am giving myself permission to eat whatever I want. My cat has been dying for the last several days, and if she hangs on for the next couple of hours (which I'm not sure she will), she's going to make her last trip to the vet. My entire family has been a mess, and today is definitely not the day to worry about what anyone is eating. ?

My heart hurts for you and your family, that is a horrible experience to go through. Get your snuggles while you can and we'll be here to cheer you on when you're ready to face eating and the scale again (please be sure you're okay mentally, first. I took a whole week of stuffing my face after my pup passed and I'm glad I took that time)

Big drop this week that surely accounts for much of last week as well.  Guess I can look forward to another sandbag next Sunday.

That's 5.3 lbs in 4 weeks, not too far behind the rate I've been aiming for.  Calorie math says I should have lost 2.9 pounds in that span, so I'm definitely exceeding their average activity level and maintaining good metabolism.  I'll need to accelerate a bit to hit my goal on time, but with the weather warming up I think that'll come pretty naturally as I get around to more projects and try to play extra golf this year.

Well I am going in the wrong direction! Huh. It looks like if I have cake and eat it too, I gain weight. That's just rude!

This feels very similar to my slump in November. I'm tired. I felt like I needed a break, and I definitely have taken a break, but I don't think it was super effective at actually doing anything to help. It was fun until it wasn't  :) Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

After a frustrating week and a half or so of holding static my weight seems to have started to move again. I was optimistic that I would ding my first 199.X weight by Feb 1 and I still might but we'll see. If I don't it's fine, it was always a bit arbitrary. I'm trying to keep my eye on the fact that I'm so close to my goal and I've already shed 45 lbs to get here.

Well, I was right - this week was almost bang on target for calories, and I've only seen a 0.2lb drop. At least it's not a surprise

One thing that has helped is changing my lunches. When I get a chance I take leftovers for lunch, but when I've been busy I've just been filling a lunchbox full of fruit and veg, which is much more filling at lower calories then going to get a baguette from Greggs.

Oof.  Up 2.4 lbs from where I started, and 2.8 vs last week.  I was not expecting great things for my weigh-in today, but that's a much bigger number than I expected.  I'm going to foolishly hope that at least a bit of that is still me holding on to some water from the super hard workout I did on Thursday, but it's probably been long enough since then that it's not.

I am still sad about my cat, and it actually hit me much harder later in the week, but it's time to get my eating back on track.  I actually have a plan for this week, and I went and bought groceries for it!  So that should get the number moving in the right direction again.

This was nice to type after hitting the 151 range last week and then losing it for a few days. It helps yesterday was a low carb day but I snacked a lot (one of those high-hunger days in which it seems impossible to feel satiated) and wasn't active. I was able to get back into the swing of working out again last week: 3 days of Peloton rides and one day of Peloton strength + stretch. My knee, in the meniscus region, starting hurting quite a bit so I backed off the idea of running and was able to ride and do strength without causing any further pain/issue. I took Friday off due to not waking up in time to ride (the Peloton is in the Man's office) and my knee hurting too bad to run still. It worked out, though, as I was able to go get labs done I needed for this week's doc appointment since I can't work out before labs anyway. My knee is feeling better this week, too, so it works out that I don't need to skip a workout day to get the labs this week.

My run schedule is wonky because I have a recurring 8am meeting for work on Monday mornings. It doesn't get light enough to see and therefore run until about 730, not giving me time to run. I could run, but training up to a 10k after only ever running 5k (and not a single step more) won't happen in less than 30 minute runs. Instead, I've decided I'll have to aim for back-to-back days of running (Tues-Wed) and listen to my body if I need to break that up. The next couple of weekends we've got early morning events on Saturday so a Tues-Thurs-Sat run schedule won't work until near the end of February and Sundays are up in the air based on when we get home/to sleep Saturday. If I have to reduce to 2 runs and 4 days of workouts, that's okay. I'll make up for it when it begins to get lighter out earlier in the coming weeks (until the dreaded daylight savings upsets that balance all over again)

The Man left this morning for a work trip and won't be back until after dinner Thursday. I've got meals planned out to limit my waste, try new things I know he won't like, and to fit the carb cycling schedule sufficiently. I'm feeling confident in that so long as I don't give into the evening snacking.

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

Took a hit this week but I'm not too worried.  I was in a good place over the weekend but Peach is in town so we had a ridiculous brunch Sunday.  We are eating out tonight but then she's heading back to school so it's back to business for me.  It would be really nice to make it to a total loss of 5 pounds by next week's week 5 weigh in.   I can dream.

Keep fighting the good fight.
