Ensi
I'm getting used to living in a new town and having a new job! Here's a drawing I did for my colleague. The colours turned out too cold, so I'm going to make another one. Happy mistakes are the best teachers...! Lähetetty minun SM-J500FN laitteesta Tapatalkilla 3 Quote -:*~ Journal ~*:- Link to comment

LadyGrey
I haven't been here in a while but it's good to see some lovely art! Good work, NFers! I love using watercolors myself but they take a LOT of practice. I recently entered my second art show, which is actually the 1st one I could attend, with a picture of my 10 year old chocolate lab that I drew for my husband for Father's Day. Done with color pencils on pastel paper. 4 Quote Rising Heroes Faction: HAVIK Fitbit | Art Page | Instagram Link to comment

The painting is lovely, you've captured the likeness of a labrador very well Is pastel paper good when working with colour pencils? As it happens, I just finished a painting for an exhibition that's in a library. Will post it soon... 1 Quote -:*~ Journal ~*:- Link to comment

Jonesy
Just found this thread and I LOVE it! In school I always had some form of art class and since graduating I've slacked on my art. I envy anyone who can create beautiful things with watercolors. I love seeing what you have all done. It's been a long time since I did any painting but this is the last thing I did and it was a xmas present in 2014 for my parents. 3 Quote GoodReads MyFitnessPal Spoiler Previous Challenges: 2020: 1.20 - 2019: 1.19 l 2.19 2018: 1.18 l 2.18 l 3.18 l 4.18 l 5.18 l 6.18 l 7.18 2017: 1.17 I 2.17 I 3.17 I 4.17 I 5.17 l 6.17 l 7.17 l 8.17 I 9.17 l 10.17 2016: 1.16 l 2.16 l DA v.1 l DA v.2 I DA v.2 Reloaded I DA v.3 I DA v.4 I 8.16 I 9.16 I DA v.5 I 11.16 2012: 1 2013: 2 l 3 l 4 l 5 l 6 l 7 l 8 2014: 9 l 10 l Not Done Yet l Time to Conquer l Conquering HFC for Life! Pastel paper with color pencils is great if you want texture in your drawing. It just so happens it was great for the short dog hair that I was trying to achieve. Honestly it was an experiment with the paper and I ended up liking the results. I used a tan colored pastel paper, which was my mid tone. 2 Quote Rising Heroes Faction: HAVIK Fitbit | Art Page | Instagram Link to comment

Jonesy
The stardust was the most difficult part for me! I didn't have the money to go out and buy super fine paint brushes so I used the backs of paint brushes, some of those wooden skewers that people use for kabobs, and a plastic palette knife. It didn't come out how I had hoped but it still looks neat. I used acrylic paint for this and it's on a sheet of Strathmore Canvas Paper. 1 Quote GoodReads MyFitnessPal Spoiler Previous Challenges: 2020: 1.20 - 2019: 1.19 l 2.19 2018: 1.18 l 2.18 l 3.18 l 4.18 l 5.18 l 6.18 l 7.18 2017: 1.17 I 2.17 I 3.17 I 4.17 I 5.17 l 6.17 l 7.17 l 8.17 I 9.17 l 10.17 2016: 1.16 l 2.16 l DA v.1 l DA v.2 I DA v.2 Reloaded I DA v.3 I DA v.4 I 8.16 I 9.16 I DA v.5 I 11.16 2012: 1 2013: 2 l 3 l 4 l 5 l 6 l 7 l 8 2014: 9 l 10 l Not Done Yet l Time to Conquer l Conquering HFC for Life! Jonesy
Question Anyone experiment with different sprays to help reduce or eliminate finished charcoal and pencil drawings from smudging? Or have one you can recommend? I want to get better so I did the typical thing of searching online and came across this channel that I though looked easy enough to do and was made in a very easy to understand video. Link to the channel I used She has some good / easy to understand stuff. And it's workable, so you can make corrections. I picked it up at hobby lobby with a 40% off coupon, so for me it was only like $4 or $5 bucks. My art teacher always used cheap hairspray. I asked her if any of her art had turned yellow or what not from it and she said not yet in her lifetime. I don't like the idea of hairspray and it never really worked for me. I also recently used Mod Podge Matte Finish on a charcoal/chalk pastel and it seemed to work well as a final spray. 2 Quote Rising Heroes Faction: HAVIK Fitbit | Art Page | Instagram Link to comment
Jonesy
I couldn't remember the name, thank you! My art teacher used that and I had heard about hairpsray but didn't really trust it. I also didn't want to use the hairspray on the baked paper I put the charcoal on. I made this for my living room and wondered what I could use on it. Doing a living room makeover and going with a beauty and the beast theme (blue and yellow accents) and yes I'm obsessed with Disney. Fatty McButterpants
Okay, does adult coloring count? (Yes, it's a thing.) Because that's one of my favorite ways EVER to relax. I have two of Johanna Basford's books (Lost Ocean and Secret Garden, along with The Time Garden by Daria Song. These are two works in progress from Secret Garden (the owl is for a challenge called "Blue Birds," wherein, obviously, the entire bird has to be in shades of blue). 3 Quote The greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are...the second greatest is being happy with what you find. I sculpt, paint, sketch, draw, and design creatures mostly. My latest project were three soft sculpture poseable dragon hatchlings. I had to learn to sew to get them assembled but it was fun.
