Help a Hero!

As many of you know Sloth will go to any lengths to help people out. Rescue people stuck in a car after a crash by using a kettle bell, return lost bike to owner, ride broken bike back for friend, and post tons and tons of supporting posts for what seems like every NFer. Well now he's being a hero again but is being modest about his efforts. As most of you know he has a big ride coming up and he is raising funds to help a worthy charity. I stumbled on it by accident and wanted to share it with you since some of you had expressed interest in his funding efforts before. So below is his page for his fund raising. It's for Red Ribbon Ride which is raising money for HIV/AIDS organizations in Minnesota. So lets see if we can help a hero help others.

I'm glad you shared this because you know he'd never actually ask us to give him money.

Sloth! How was the weekend?

I hope the doc says that the cure to your belly is caffeinated jelly beans.

I was hopeful.  Mrs. Sloth doesn't work Fridays and we had a big head start on the packing on Thursday.

Thanks for posting that. I object to being called a hero, but your request was much more eloquent that anything my hamfists would have tapped out.

True that. Asking for money and donations is very awkward. I don't like it.  While I look forward to the actual ride and I believe in the cause, I don't think I'll do a charity ride again.

The weekend was good, but busy.  I'll post details at lunch.

I'm going to the doctor this afternoon.  I have a bag of caffeinated jelly beans for Saturday, but I'd be willing to bet I'm not supposed to consume them. I'm really having trouble eating. I'm getting about the calories I'm used to, which doesn't bode well for Saturday.  Somehow I'm not losing weight though.

Training wasn't so great this weekend. :(

Friday -  We left a lot later than intended and did not beat traffic.  We were so far behind we did not stop when we went past the World's Largest Ball of Twine.  We took over the group campsite at Sibley State Park.  After setting up our giant tent we sat around the fire and had dinner.  Dinner set my belly on fire so I went to bed.

Saturday - we did a three mile family hike.  We saw tons of different animal tracks, few critters though.  Slothgirl was a non-stop torrent of talking, which was kind of cool because she's normally pretty quiet.  I took a nap after lunch and did a 30 mile ride after that. The rest of the afternoon and evening was playing games with the kids and sitting around the fire.  I didn't have it in me to do any more by way of training.  I almost had a day without a good deed, but as I was heading back from an ice run I saw a couple of ladies trying to figure out what was wrong with their bike.  I gave it a quick fix and lubed the chain and they were saved a 40 minute walk back to their campsite.

Sunday - we got up early and drove to Northern Wisconsin.  I had to go take care of our dead.  We got there just as the rain was ending, cleaned up the cemetery, and planted some flowers.  While the rest of the family played in the hotel pool I did a little Yoga.  The kids and I watched American Ninja Warrior before bed while Mrs. Sloth blew seven bucks in the casino with my aunt.  This was our first taste of ANW, the kids got really amped up and were equating different events to the different circus classes they might take.

Monday - I got up early enough to ride.  It was cold, windy, and rainy so I instead I sat around and read small town newspapers and drank terrible coffee.  It stopped raining in time for the ceremony at the cemetery, for which I was very grateful.  On the drive home we stopped at a winery to pick up a thank you gift for the dog sitters.  It turns out it was actually a meadery.  I was going to buy a bunch for the next nerd night, but it was pricy so I just bought one for me and the missus.

I'm back from the doctor. It seems to be an ulcer.  Right now I'm waiting for some meds that will calm it down.

I forgot to ask about caffeinated jelly beans. I ordered some sports waffles, packets of maple syrup, and salt pills - hopefully I'll be able to stomach those better.

I hoped you liked the write up. After I wrote it I was worried that it sounded too much like a Nigerian Prince scam since I don't know who knows the man behind the Sloth. And you object to being called a hero? Sounds like something a hero would say. But I found a meme that might sum you up better.

You're not wrong about that.  During a commercial SlothGirl showed me how she could climb a wall by pressing her feet and palms into a corner and ooching up.

One pill before breakfast for a month, that seems doable.

You'll make a fortune here. There are still people who fall for this and the Microsoft error scam.

I just love Slothgirl's enthusiasm and ability.

Good luck with the race on Saturday.

I wish this were a joke, but I know it's not. I guess I'll think "jello, white rice and ginger ale thoughts for you" (probably not what calms your stomach, but the kind food my mom used to give us when we were sick).

5/31/17 Wednesday

School is near maximum chaos levels.  I had the pleasure of breaking up a kindergarten brawl.  Nine more days.

I took the mountain bike out for a little road ride at a very easy pace - 15 miles in 90 minutes.  Otherwise I didn't do much.  The bike has a hop in the front wheel that is robbing me of momentum, I'll have to figure that out tonight.

The worst/best part is they record that after the fact, which means someone actually decided the things they say on the show was the BEST option.

You'd think.  Like an epic Ewok battle.  It was really scary for the kids though.  The combatants were out of control and that's really hard for them, the rest of the class was scared because kids were getting hurt, and I was nervous because someone (not me) just got in big trouble for a very, very minor injury that happened when breaking up a fight.  Honestly, if it were bigger kids I would have stayed out of it and waited for the higher ups.

Is she one called Flex?  Slothgirl loved her.  I might have to add a salmon ladder to the basement equipment.

I'll send her down.  You two would get along, just don't overwhelm her with chatting.  She scares off easily, like a feral cat.

I was wondering how authentic the show was.  I wonder how much is redone for television, like the old wrestling shows.

I'll check it out.  Netflix is a better option for us.  ANW was super-cool, but it just doesn't fit our schedule.
