Nerdiest Job?

Recommended Posts

So being that this is a site for nerds of all shapes, sizes, varieties, and flavors, I wonder who has the ultimate nerdy job?

I feel like I should at least be in the running. I'm a CPA (in layman's terms that's a Pencil Pusher). Not only am I a CPA, but I'm a CPA that does taxes! I know, I know. Childhood dreams do come true!

Which of you Rebels can out-Nerd me???

Other than the fact that I'm a mechanical engineer, I can't tell you what I do, I'd have to kill you.

Edit: It's not the nerdiest though.

I was doing customer service in a callcentre for 7 years dealing with people's phone problems. Reached a point where people would ask me whilst I was mid-call for specific policy rules, contract terms, phone specs etc. Stayed on the bottom rung throughout, but I ended up being almost Rain Man-esque for my co-workers.

Not nerdiest job, but the way I dealt with it probably counts...

Edit: "was" because I was made redundant.

I currently do Systems Reliability - I sit around and wait for people to break their applications or hardware and then leap into action.

I will now forever imagine you as Hobbes pouncing on Calvin when he comes home. I don't know why, but it just seems right....

I maintain the IT systems in our Head Office and our 25 retail stores.

I am, still, constantly amazed at the lack of common sense in some of these people.

Not a winner, but top 10 at least.

I move securities and cash to cover exposure caused by market value fluctuations on derivitives trades.

I think I might be responsible for the recession.

As a business major, that kinda job sounds like fun. Especially since I'm taking a finance class right now and we're talking about trading and stocks and such.

For my jobs...I don't get to do any fun stuff yet since I'm still in college. Job #1 is as an English and writing tutor. Job #2 is as a waitress in a large chain restaurant.

In other words...I deal with A LOT of stupid people. Some are so stupid I don't know how they got to college. The others are so stupid I'm not sure how they had children or are still alive. ("My fish tastes FISHY!" "My /rare/ steak is way undercooked! I wanted it pink!" "I'd like a glass of Pinot Grigio" (pronounced, by them, pee-not gree-gio))
