2024, January 1- March 18: Weight Loss PVP: 10 or 12 lbs in 10 or 12 Weeks!

Recommended Posts

01/01/2024 - 174.4lbs

08/01/2024 - 172.0lbs

15/01/2024 - 170.9lbs

22/01/2024 - 169.2lbs

29/01/2024 - 169.0lbs

05/02/2024 - 168.8lbs

12/02/2024 - 169.2lbs

19/02/2024 - 165.7lbs

I was ill this week, which wasn't great, but it meant that I didn't feel like eating loads and I didn't drink any alcohol. I made an effort to eat enough, but I was still under target and it's given me the unexpected bonus of a low weigh-in. I'll be happy if I can maintain that weight into next week now.

Even better, I've broken through the 12 stone barrier (168lbs), I'm very close to breaking the 75kg barrier (165lbs), and I can almost go down another belt loop too.

Don't say "I don't have enough time", say instead "that's not a priority right now" and see how that makes you feel.

My mind has clearly already started to switch gears. I've found myself drifting a couple hundred calories over budget, which hasn't been a problem previously. Fortunately, it just means pushing my final day in this effort back by one or two.

When I first ding anything less than 195 I'll push my calories allowance up by 500 and carry on as I have been.

I will be traveling next week for work - leaving Sunday evening and no travel scale (not that it'd fit -  I don't even think my personal computer is going to fit with my work one).

On the personal computer note, I may not even have much of a chance to check in. My phone is such a pain so I usually forego trying but we shall see how I'm feeling after the hubbub of being in the office for the first time since 2022.

Plan is to stick to my lower carb paleo-focused way of eating. There will be a department dinner one night but the other dinners I should be in more control of. Breakfast and lunch are in the air - I'm hoping we don't go into office until later so I can use the "made to order" breakfast option at the hotel. Lunch is likely going to be out every day - it was the last time I was there and I won't have much option for bringing in a lunch. Will need to stay focused and don't let travel unravel my discipline.

I have a copy of the plan the Man has been using for our strength workouts together. The gym and the hotel is sparse (based on photos) so I'll have to do a lot of improvising/adjusting. I may focus on daily full body strength and add in cardio. I'll skip a workout Friday and sleep in a touch - my flight doesn't arrive home until 11:58pm that night, plus the drive home (1.5 hours).

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

Here, I'll help y'all feel better about your results last week:

12-31:  218.7 lbs  (start)

01-07:  218.5 lbs  (-0.2)

01-14:  216.5 lbs  (-2.0)

01-21:  216.3 lbs  (-0.2)

01-28:  213.4 lbs  (-2.9)

02-04:  215.6 lbs  (+2.2)

02-11:  212.7 lbs  (-2.9)

02-18:  218.7 lbs  (+6.0)

I mean, I took most of the week off and ate bigly, but I'm still in actual disbelief of that number.  In six days I managed to erase almost two months worth of work.  On one hand, holy crap I'm amazing!  On the other hand...dammitsomuch!

Back on the wagon today, lets get going again.

Undoubtedly a fair amount is, but an extra 15,000 kcal (almost all sugar) over the last week isn't helping matters.

I imagine that you will lose several of those back tracked pounds this week as you get back on track.  But it's always hard to see that number go backwards.  Just remember there is no time table.  You'll get there when you get there.

Sounds like you've got a good plan in place. I think it's ok to accept that on a trip like this things won't be perfect, and you can't do everything that you could at home, but having a plan to keep on track and be able to hit the ground running again after your trip definitely helps.

Obviously bodies are more complicated than this, but the usual figure touted is that you need to eat a surplus of 3,500kcal to gain 1lb. If you ate 15,000 over maintenance you'd therefore be looking at about 4lbs gained. Having said that, if that 15,000 is in excess of your calorie target, and your target had you losing an average of 1lb per week, your actual surplus is probably only enough for a 3lb gain. The theory might not exactly match the result, but I hope that you see a much more realistic number after a week back on the wagon.

Ugh this was me the week after Christmas, having taken the week off tracking for the holiday and a minibreak to the one of the craft beer capitals of the east coast. It came off in about a week - hopefully yours will too. But it's such a bummer to see the scale wiping out all the progress you've made. :(

This is 100% what I'm trying to do. The dial is turned down but will not be turned off. My hope is that I keep just enough to maintain a level of momentum for once I'm home again.

When I last traveled to HQ in 2022, it was the spark that snowballed into me reaching my highest weight ever and feeling absolutely awful. When I gained 5lbs in 3 days of travel, I mentally gave up with my physical efforts following short after. I'm mentally stronger this time but I found I'm even stronger when I have a plan/idea of what I need to do before I get there. I may not be able to follow said plan perfectly, but at least I have some guidelines and that's good enough!

The math says I should have gained 1.3 pounds last week, although that's based on pretty loose estimates of my intake.  Still, they weren't THAT loose.  It'll subside, and I'll get back on track before long.  Just sucks to see it all unravel so quickly, even if it isn't "real" weight.  Doesn't help that I've been feeling pretty terrible the last few days--squishy, slow, stiff, and just all-around old.

I'll be thrilled if mine turns around in a week--right now I'm thinking it'll take closer to 3.

The good news is that last week's weigh-in was a fluke. It's not *good* now per se, but considering I haven't been doing all that much these past few months, it's quite ok.

05/01: 95.90 kg / 211.4 lbs

15/01: 95.20 kg / 209.9 lbs

19/01: 94.15 kg / 207.6 lbs

09/02: 94.70 kg / 208.8 lbs

16/02: 96.00 kg / 211.6 lbs

23/02: 94.35 kg / 208.0 lbs (-1.65 / -3.6)

02-18:  218.7 lbs  (+6.0)

02-25:  215.2 lbs  (-3.5)

Considering that I didn't actually start the reversal until midweek I'm pretty ecstatic with that number.  In four days I dumped at least 3-1/2 of the sudden-onset pounds--I say "at least" because I still had three more massive eating days after last week's weigh-in, and I'm sure the scale number was even higher than 218.7 by Wednesday morning.  I'll take it!

With three weeks left in the PVP I still need to drop another 8-1/2 lbs to hit my target.  That's a big ask, but if I have a smashing result this week then it still just might be attainable.  I'm not going to overextend myself to get there, so we'll just see how far I can go with plain discipline and sticking to my regular goals.

big drop is probubly due to loosing the water weight or not weighing at the right time of day or some voodoo. Havent been doing anything differently (to be honest, excercised less this week if anything)

anyway, No idea ?. But it is progress and progress is good.

Nice work!

Finding what works for you is really hard. Plus life has a habit of happening and making everything complicated. You got this, stick at it ?

Using yesterday's weigh in this week, because I had to get up before the ass-crack of dawn was even thinking about getting out of bed to head off for a business trip, and weighing myself just wasn't going to happen this morning.

I am incredibly pleased with the pound and a half I lost this week, but also slightly confused about how it happened. I over did it a bit with exercise (3 days of endurance-heavy roller derby practices in a row), and was *really* hungry as a result. So, I figured I must have actually needed more food than I had planned to recover from all that, so I listened to my body and ate more, convinced I was going to gain a bunch of weight but figuring not burning myself out was the more important goal at the time. And, despite all that, I had one of the biggest drops I've had all challenge!

I guess there's a sweet spot in there for eating more to support the exercise and still losing weight, or just the right combination of macronutrients, and I stumbled on it by accident?

Starting in March I'm going to get access to a roller derby specific diet plan*, that will hopefully help me live in that sweet spot.

Until then, though, I'm going to just muddle along as best I can, especially with a bunch of the time between now and then being taken up with the business trip where I'm not going to have many options for food, and given the timing of the events I need to be at, even getting food could be interesting.

*it could be used for any sport, but it was put together by a roller derby training company. And, it's primarily goal is "how to fuel yourself for your sport," with a side of how to tweak it to lose fat at the same time.
