Hello fellow NF rebels,

 

I'm so happy to have found this community, and I can't wait to start the next challenge on the 6th. I'm thinking I'll identify with a Ranger, as Gerard Butler in 300 was completely incredible!

 

As a 29 year old, newly wed, first time homeowner with an unpredictable career (think 9-4 w/ 1 hour commute & unannounced overtime on nights/weekends), I've had my fair share of starts and stops on my road to health and happiness. I'm currently sitting at 6'1" & 237.2 lbs, which puts me at 28-32% Body Fat, and that scares the heck out of me.

 


Since my (initial) goal is to be under 200 Lbs by 30th birthday (1 year away), I'm planning on doing the Beginner Body Weight Workout twice a week (Monday / Thursday) and then put aside time on the weekend to run. I also just had a friend move back into town who loves to run 5K's, so I've been asking him to push me into signing up for races that I can use as benchmarks and waypoints.

 

I've already started to track calories/runs with myfitnesspal and runkeeper, I've changed my work desk to a standing desk, and planning on giving up beer after the 1st (switching to straight spirits instead to save on $$ and drunken binging).

 

I just cancelled my unused membership at 24 hour fitness, since it is too far away from home and way too crowded (it's in the major shopping mall here, so parking and cardio machines are impossible to get). I'm looking for another gym that is on my commute to work. Sticking with the body weight workouts and running outside in the meantime. Hopefully I'll have enough info and drive to omit the need for a gym.


 


I want to be able to wear comfortable clothes.

I want to go to a beach/pool and feel comfortable.

I want my wife to be uncontrollably attracted to me.

I want to be able to shop at Express and actually find something that fits.

I don't want people to call me "Big Guy" or pat my belly.

I want friends to ask my advice on weight loss.

You are on the right track, man! Oh, I also used to dream about shopping at express and thought it would never happen. It has! (but it's so expensive I rarely shop there lol) it will happen for you too :) it just takes time and boring commitment to change your habits. myfitnesspal has been super helpful for me to track my calories and protein/fat/carbs. Nerdfitness has been an incredible wealth of knowledge to get me on the right track. You're going to hit every one of those aspirations!

You're right, there's so much knowledge here! That, coupled with the fact that I've never been part of a forum community before, makes me weary that I might end up overwhelmed with too much info (Underpants Gnome).

 

On the plus side, today a coworker had their last day, so I've now go a corner cubicle with a view of the bay! Once I get the standing desk set up I'll fully move over there. It's hard to be negative with a view like that!

nice! i'm jealous of your cube. i am completely cut off from the outside world here in my 7x7 foot space lol 

 

the forums can definitely take some getting used to. sometimes you have plenty of free time and can keep up no problem other times you just have to be okay with not updating and reading up of everyone else's threads as often as you might like. you'll get the hang of it though and get into a groove that suits your lifestyle!

Welcome MangoStrike!

You seem to have a pretty good idea of what you want to achieve and how to achieve it! Just be careful not to do too much at once, that leads to frustration. Good luck with your training and keep us posted!

You're right, I do have lots of goals, but I'm trying hard to tread the line between enthusiastically committed and overwhelmingly frustrated.

I posted my first challenge, and I think the hardest part will be the time management aspect. I'll be loosely fixing my diet, but keeping the focus on commitment to showing up for the first challenge.
