How Far Can You Go? (Running / Walking Distance PvP) [June 26th - Aug 5th]

Recommended Posts

Man, this is getting pathetic. I usually run 5k or so 2-3x/week, but haven't gotten more than a warm-up jog in so far.

Need to step it up...

Ok, so a week late to the game, but I'm in. I have checked out my average mileage per day throughout June, and come to the conclusion that I average 2.4 miles a day. Therefore, for the purposes of this challenge, I will only count mileage above the daily 2.4 miles baseline.

Total for week 1 = 2.28 miles (until 9:43pm, Sunday night, IST)

This challenge should help me up my run/walk game - I'm going to enjoy this!!!

You walk 5k every lunch? Damn! I don't want to be draconian on the rules so if you want to count it in this challenge then you can. This is just  a bit of fun after all! Although, I was thinking that we could run a mini competition where whoever has fewer miles out of the 3 of us going to Barrel of Laps by Fri 28th July, has to get the first round in. :D

Alright, I'm in. I suspect I'll be getting that first round though (particularly if my "long" run doesn't go about 6 miles!).

16.81 done for week 1, which is almost perfectly 1/6th of my 100 mile target.

This sounds really fun. I do so much walking that is actually necessary, that I'm not sure how much extra I can really put in though. (I'm also a really limited with hiking places without the monthly transit pass that I might not be getting because I probably won't have enough work days to justify it and it's so expensive. :( )

I do get some miles with the walk to and from the playground where I exercise. But I'm not sure what that should be counted as...

With the humidity comes the chafing. The skin under the band of my sports bra is so raw that I'm going to have to somehow tape it tomorrow. Deciding between KT tape and duct tape with something less sticky (bandaid?) directly over the raw spot.

I'd try the KT tape first. Duct tape and skin usually isn't a good combination, and it's not breathable so it could make the irritated skin even more irritated.

Urgh, chafing is horrible. I get chafing under my arms if I'm running in a tank-top. I used to get chafing on my bum during long runs :redface-new: but then I switched to Runderwear and I've not had that issue since. Do you use Body-Glide at all? I find that helps.

Got my run in this morning, so I'm just shy of 25 miles for the challenge so far. Tough Mudder on Saturday should push that up a bit more :D

I need something like that for long walks. Once I get over 25k steps or so my bum starts to chafe and gets really painful.

Turns out when you are a guy and you go running for a few hours at a time nipple chafing becomes a thing. I mean WTF I wish I'd been warned about that!

See, these are problems I never thought about because they don't apply to me. Anyone who tries to tell me women are not clearly the tougher gender is woefully misinformed.

Yeah this was news to me the first time as well. It's worse with loose-fitting clothing.

Yup, I decided that since KT tape was actually made for human skin I would start with that. I wrote duct tape because I thought of that first. I knew someone who used to do that years ago (before KT tape was invented). Turned out that the KT tape was PERFECT! I can't believe I've been running all these years and never tried that.

Yup I chafe all those places too sometimes. I did use body glide and it usually does help. That body glide has been in some interesting places.

Yup, it's even painful to witness sometimes. You probably know this, but NipGuards are adhesive circles made for that problem...I guess kinda like the KT tape solution.

Oh yeah I've done research on it since first seeing it. Oddly that's really the only place I've seen chaffing. Although I have done some work to prevent it from happening in all the usual places. I think KT tape is a good idea though.

All this talk about chafing has me wondering if upping my miles is worth it....

Just been to check out how easily these products are to get in India - whilst Runderwear appears to be readily available and reasonably priced, Bodyglide is going for 6500Rs for one 0.45 Ounce stick on Amazon India.

Which is about $100 at the current exchange rate!!!

Though it does include free delivery :P

It's good but not that good!

Vaseline helps but isn't as good. Aquaphor is better than vaseline if you can get it.

I'll keep this in mind if I start to suffer...

So my miles last week totalled 24.35, of which 7.55 are extra, so I now have a total of 9.83 miles for the challenge.

No longer in last place!
