Harbard
^ oh, I know. And I don't want to come off as a curmudgeon who only likes heavy strategy games, because really quite the opposite! I just don't think KoT is a very fun party game either .Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI get that. Although, I think KoT is pretty fun to play with kids. It's a good blend of simple fantasy/roleplaying and strategy, but throws in enough random chance to even the playing field for a youngster playing an adult. Strickland5
Just a side note/topic - the wife and I are always bringing out games with us to the pub, on vacation, etc. We love playing games so they travel with us. I'm pickup a couple of storage options from All Rolled Up a UK company which does gaming supplies. I got a "all rolled up" for father's day last year - I've the best cats ever! - and LOVE it for my gaming kit so to keep supporting a good shop we're getting stuff from them again. Then maybe a few other boxes from Michaels to carry our games without the bulk of the boxes. So does anyone else like to bring their games out and about with them? saroufall
Now that schools just about to finish up, I'm thinking I'm going to have to bring a few games in to work to kill the time. (I'm a home health care aid on the nightshift, so there isn't usually very much going on.) What games would you all recommend as 'intros' to tabletop games? msuroo
What games would you all recommend as 'intros' to tabletop games? We have the most universal success with Ticket to Ride, and you'll find that at/near the top of pretty much every list of "gateway games". Depending on the audience, other good options can include:7 WondersPandemicKing of TokyoCarcassonneDixitHanabiResistanceForbidden DesertTimelineDominionChecking out each game's bgg page can tell you a little more about them and whether or not they would be a good fit for your group.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote Challenge thread Link to comment
MegaCarp
I say Ixnay on the Ominion Day and 7 Wonders...Dear God you're trying to convince them gaming is fun not that you need a Bachelors degree in math to sort it out. I'd say Munchkin is a good Gateway game, most know Settlers of Catan, I'd suggest Scoville as a start up game, Formula D. Depending on the size of the group, play Love Letter. You could play Guillotine. Hmm... 1 Quote Link to comment
msuroo
*shrug* I threw out a range. I don't think you need a math degree to count to 50, and most of my friends are the thinking type, so games like 7 wonders and Dominion have gone over great for us. Games like KoT and Munchkin personally bore me to tears, but other people like them and that's great too. Like I said, it depends on the audience. Why not?
Just got Settlers of America: Trails to Rails. It's like a combination of Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride. I've been pissed forever that there wasn't an app! I'll have to grab Ticket to Ride as well. I Play Cataan on xbox arcade all the time. It's hard now because it's actually not downloadable anymore because the publisher folded, so the only people playing are those that downloaded it 2 years ago. No ipad here, sadly because I really liked Lords of Waterdeep the time I played it with Seth, and I really want to try Small World.
