A relative noob coming on board

Recommended Posts

Howdy all!  My name is Sam and I am uber excited to find nerd fitness.  A woman I met at the gym turned me on to this site and I was overjoyed.  You mean there are other people out there like me?  My husband leads me to believe I am an oddity.

I am a mother of two wonderful little girls.  I began my fitness journey after the birth of my oldest.  I started running and after my husband told me he didn't think I could run a half marathon I decided to prove him wrong.  I finished my first half eight months later.  I was hooked.  Fast forward three years, six half marathons, and two marathons.... I started blacking out and found out I had an issue with my neck that took me off of running.  I wasn't allowed to be alone or drive or... really do anything fun.  I tried finding a running partner. It is amazing how difficult it is to find someone to run with you.  So, I bought a treadmill.  I went from running 45-50 miles a week to barely breaking 20.  It was disheartening.  I got depressed, ate like a pig, gained weight like mad… yada yada…  Fast forward eight months when my husband came home from deployment.  We moved from a relatively warm climate (50-60 degree winters) to a cold climate (20 degree winters).  Any desire to start running on the street was out the window. I joined the local Y and started lifting weights.  I found my new obsession.  I started with the machines and a guy at the gym turned me on to Starting Strength.  Well, that book was quite an eye opener.  I revamped my routine and am on my second week.

I love how supportive everyone seems to be on this site.  I cannot wait to start the next challenge and see how far I can go.  Thank you ahead of time for bearing with me during my long introduction!
