Lara
Solved! As you can see I still have the problem of thin paper. New sketchbook is here, but I'm waiting for this notebook to be finished before I start using the new one. 4 Quote Link to comment
Jonesy
So like an addict, I saw a bullet journal at Joann's Fabric and it was on sale, so I BOUGHT IT! Do I need it, no but it's super cute and was only $8. Now I have 2 spares, one for 2018 and one for 2019! Also this weeks bujo is half meh and half, oooh did I really do that pretty lettering? 6 Quote GoodReads MyFitnessPal Spoiler Previous Challenges: 2020: 1.20 - 2019: 1.19 l 2.19 2018: 1.18 l 2.18 l 3.18 l 4.18 l 5.18 l 6.18 l 7.18 2017: 1.17 I 2.17 I 3.17 I 4.17 I 5.17 l 6.17 l 7.17 l 8.17 I 9.17 l 10.17 2016: 1.16 l 2.16 l DA v.1 l DA v.2 I DA v.2 Reloaded I DA v.3 I DA v.4 I 8.16 I 9.16 I DA v.5 I 11.16 2012: 1 2013: 2 l 3 l 4 l 5 l 6 l 7 l 8 2014: 9 l 10 l Not Done Yet l Time to Conquer l Conquering HFC for Life! Lara
My music log has only a few pages left, and I would need to start the new one in the middle of the month, which is not practical. So I thought tomorrow was a better day to start the sketchbook I bought. I was still doubtful, when yesterday, a glass of water slipped off my hands and ruined several notebook pages (and that is why I have no pictures for this week ). So now I am so thrilled I get to start the new one, but also worried I will screw it up. Quote Link to comment

Lara
New tracking system in place! Aside from the total amount of work, I wil log too how much time I dedicate to each technique, étude or piece, in segments of 10 minutes. There is a nice color code from red -danger, I didn't practice enough of that- to blue, violet and pink, we're-safe-now colors. I think this way I'll get a better idea about how much of each I actually do, and will help me not to forget those I find harder. Also, I have divided all the work to do in three different blocks to alternate between: I still don't like the paper. It is thick, so when I write there is no problem, but if I use markers to fill some zones -like the tracking system you can see showing through in red- it still messes everything up On the bright side, I've forgotten about mistakes and ruining the sketchbook and started to draw: No special reason to focus on dinosaurs now but they look so cool! 6 Quote Link to comment

I think it has a bit to do with how fast they dry, because if I go over a spot twice before I let it dry all the way it'll really show through. But if I wait before going over it again, it's usually not as bad. Personally, I prefer to use colored pencil for coloring things in. But really, everything looks great! 2 Quote Current Challenge: Zeroh, stick to the routine! Link to comment

I've actually switched from colored pencils (because I suck at using them even though the work really well) to lightly water-coloring for coloring things in. Figuring out the right amount of water can be tricky but so far so good depending on what pens I use on the previous page. 4 hours ago, zenLara said: Love the sketches! 2 Quote GoodReads MyFitnessPal Spoiler Previous Challenges: 2020: 1.20 - 2019: 1.19 l 2.19 2018: 1.18 l 2.18 l 3.18 l 4.18 l 5.18 l 6.18 l 7.18 2017: 1.17 I 2.17 I 3.17 I 4.17 I 5.17 l 6.17 l 7.17 l 8.17 I 9.17 l 10.17 2016: 1.16 l 2.16 l DA v.1 l DA v.2 I DA v.2 Reloaded I DA v.3 I DA v.4 I 8.16 I 9.16 I DA v.5 I 11.16 2012: 1 2013: 2 l 3 l 4 l 5 l 6 l 7 l 8 2014: 9 l 10 l Not Done Yet l Time to Conquer l Conquering HFC for Life! Thank you I'm always so tormented about my bad eye for proportions that I don't really like drawing living things (not that dinosaurs live anymore but you understand me), so it is nice to find people like the sketches. 1 hour ago, zeroh13 said: I don't know what kind of markers you're using, but some of them are a lot better than others at not showing through. I asked my brother about the markers when he visited us last week (professional drawer), and told me the problem is the paper that can't absorb that much pigment. That I should stop messing around with cheap paper and buy the proper thing. I guess I could do that when I get better. I have colored pencils, but the thing is I don't like them that much. I love bright, strong colors and I can't get that with colored pencils (at least not with the ones I own). Anyhow, this can turn out to be a good thing, as I'll focus less on colors and more on the sketch itself (I love drawing with just a pencil) so I'll get a bit better. I'm following your idea of changing something every time to make it different from the original I am copying, and it is very satisfying because it allows me to change things I don't like about the original or that I understand/see differently. So thank you for the advice! 51 minutes ago, Jonesy said: I've actually switched from colored pencils (because I suck at using them even though the work really well) to lightly water-coloring for coloring things in. My boyfriend offered me some watercolor pencils for my birthday, and I've been playing around with them, but I am not very good at it. I never used actual watercolors, and this "undefined" finish they have makes me feel a bit uncomortable I guess I'll need to take a look to a few tutorials to understand them. Thank you! 3 Quote Link to comment
