Elastigirl
Let's form an adventure party whose goal is to memorize Bible verses and encourage one another along the way! It's fun to pick the same verse. That way we can talk about what the verse means to us. So, I've chosen a couple of verses. However, as the treasure hunt leader, I'm pretty easy going, so if you have another verse you'd rather work on, that's fine too. The verse for the challenge is; Philipippians 3:12-14 The following is in ESV, but feel free to go with another translation Not that I have already obtained this, or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,I press onward toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. a couple of notes: remember that when the Bible says perfect, it is talking about being complete. What Paul is talking about is making us complete in Christ. In other words, making us more like Christ. I'd recommend reading the whole chapter in order to give yourself a good grounding in what this verse is talking about, or even better the whole book. Elastigirl
How's everyone doing? Today I finally remembered to write the verse on a card. Now, after I read my Bible, I can study the verse a bit. As I was writing it out, the part that jumped out at me was;I press on... because Christ has made me His own. We follow Him, because He has called us and made us His own-that is pretty amazing. After I started this, I remembered that I will be on vacation for a bit this challenge. I'll actually have more time to work on it during vacation, but not sure how much I will post here. 1 Quote Wisdom 22.5 Dexterity 13 Charisma 15 Strength 21 Constitution-13 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind' Luke 10; 27 Link to comment

This, but also it reminds us that we'll never have it all figured out either - it's a journey, not a destination, and we're all a work in progress. I like that it encourages us to continue pressing onward, rather than looking at what we have achieved and saying "Ya know what, I've done enough." - which is an easy mindset to fall into 1 Quote Current Challenge: Developing Roots Link to comment
Artemis Prime
Got 95% on my verse review this morning. I did a little digging on the phrase "forgetting what lies behind" since I was curious whether Paul meant forgetting past sins or forgetting the other goals that the world calls us to instead of pursuing Christ. Found this line: Christians can learn from the past, but we are not bound to the things we have done. Instead of being chained by our past mistakes, we can move forward, knowing that we carry Christ's forgiveness. As someone who struggles to accept when I've made a mistake and move on, I find this very freeing. 2 Quote "For God did not give us a spirit of fear; but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline". - 2 Timothy 1:7 "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." -Gandalf Link to comment

As someone who struggles to accept when I've made a mistake and move on, I find this very freeing. That's good. I was thinking of it as Christ's forgiveness for sins, and also things that weren't sins, but mistakes or things we wished we'd done differently. We can trust that God will work all those things out for His good.As I write this, I'm thinking about the fact that way too often I'll go over a conversation I had with someone, and thinking of all the ways I could have said it better, and worrying. I need to seek forgiveness if I said something sinful, but if it's just stewing over whether I said it right , I need to just ask Christ to bless it and look forward to the next thing He has called me to do. I do have a habit of looking back, and I need to remember Christ's forgiveness, and move forward. 3 Quote Wisdom 22.5 Dexterity 13 Charisma 15 Strength 21 Constitution-13 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind' Luke 10; 27 Link to comment

Artemis Prime
Got a 93% on this over the weekend. Finally got around to reading the entire chapter and the comment in verse 20 about our citizenship in heaven stuck out to me because I was just reading about this in another passage. I don't have my notes in front of me now, but basically the Philippians took great pride in their status as Roman citizens and there was a whole mythos around living "like a Roman" that really persists to modern times. So Paul is directly linking that attitude to our citizenship in heaven, basically saying that it's okay to be proud of our relationship with God, and that this pride should motivate us to pursue greater Christ-likeness. So there's a difference between that kind of pride and the sinful pride of thinking too much of ourselves. Which explains why he lays out so clearly that he realizes he is not perfect but he intends to keep striving towards perfection. 3 Quote "For God did not give us a spirit of fear; but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline". - 2 Timothy 1:7 "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." -Gandalf Link to comment
