But the start is slow, which is typical of her writing style. She specializes in magical realism and often the magic she uses is very subtle. Alif is similar to American Gods by Gaiman, if you've read that? It takes FOREVER to get anywhere interesting, but once you do, it goes fast! Don't worry, you'll get there. Twilight
I finished Good Omens a few days ago, and meh. It just wasn't what I was looking for. I feel as though I would have enjoyed it more if either I had a Christian background, or was British; I think many of the references were lost on me. I'm also not a huge fan of "funny" books. Well, back to my smutty Johnlock slashfic. Then I should finish Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear by Steve Goodman, start Brazen Femme: Queering Femininity by Chloe Brushwood Rose and Anna Camilleri, and then I don't know! Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? To Crush the Moon by Wil McCarthy? (I'd probably have to restart the trilogy at this point.)I'm excited because Holly Black just announced a new book, but it's coming out in January, argh. The Darkest Part of the Forest is another faerie story, too! SQUEE. Quote Link to comment
mightstone2k
I only have the epilogue left in Team of Rivals, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It is a very, very readable history about President Lincoln's road to the presidency and his political action in office. It's a different form of Civil War history in that it's not focused on the battles of the war, but on the Union politics of the war. Highly recommended. I also have Art of Manliness's Manvotionals going on the side. I don't know what my next book will be after Team of Rivals. I need to go through my Kindle and see what's there. 1 Quote Battle Log Lifetime Training Goals 2017 Goals Dovie'andi se tovya sagain. Avatar courtesy of Starpuck Link to comment
Demos
Hello guys, I'm currently approaching the end of my robots/empire/foundation trip with Asimov, and I have no idea what to read after it, all though the new Jim Butcher should be out in a month or so, so that's coming. Do any of you got any tips. I read pretty much anything involving sci-fi or fantasy (read all the books of Terry Pratchett, for instance), so do you guys have any tips? Demos
Peter F. Hamilton is fun. Thanks for the tip, the wikipedia entry mentioned commonwealth, which for some reason made me think of the Culture, from Iain Banks, so now it's a toss up between those two. I'll probably read both anyways, but now it is a matter of who first. Spark
I thought Uglies was the best of the series, though Pretties and Specials were both interesting extensions of the story. I'd recommend against Extras, though. Peeps and the Leviathan series were both much stronger stories of Westerfeld's, in my opinion. The Midnighters series is my favorite of his. Arlunydd
Oh my goodness... The mall I go to had a massive booksale this weekend! Didn't manage to get past the sci-fi/fantasy/classics hallway and walked out with 17 new-to-me books. Only spent about 35$. Rediscovering my love for Anne McCaffrey and Sara Douglas. I also have my pile of half a dozen library books to go through first... Best get going on it! 3 Quote A warrior has only one true friend: himself.
