Trashcan Carla's 2024 Road Map

This year, I ain't playing around. Well, I am. But that's just because I love to lift and love to train for something specific. That's my fave way to play, really. Even though it's kind of work? Oh forget it.

This year, I'm going to participate in a 15K trail run crossing the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco into the hills just beyond. Or actually I think it goes the opposite way. Course map isn't out yet.

 

I need to have the stamina and determination of Ciri from Witcher 3 to complete this race. Right now, I'm very far away from my athletic ideal, but I believe that I can get there, or at least quite close to it. I just need to dig deep and create consistency, always progressing.

 

Road Map

  1. Complete 4 months of heavy lifts strength training with my remote personal trainer to build strength and confidence, shed fat.
  2. Continue strength training program but switch things up to support my running goal for the final six months. Injury avoidance is the name of the game.
  3. Run a mildly hilly 10K in under 80 minutes completion time by June 30th.
  4. Run a moderately hilly trail 10K in under 80 minutes completion time by September 15th.
  5. Run a challenging hilly trail 10K in under 80 minutes completion time by October 31st.
  6. Complete the 15K trail run. No time goals. Just completion.

 

I'm ready to pour my heart and soul into this goal. I will call myself an athlete again and believe that I am an athlete.

Revisiting my road map. Dang - that's a fine road map! I love it. I'm a wee bit behind on the training stuff with my personal trainer, but I'll catch up. We're going to install the rubber mat floors this weekend and assemble the power rack. Gosh, I'm excited. It's going to be a ton of work, but being able to bench again, to do squats... I'm just stoked.

 

As for the running part of my road map, two obstacles: 1) I wasn't getting up early enough last challenge to actually run and 2) it's rainy season in NorCal and I hate  very much dislike running in the rain. I could have at least been doing kettlebell swings, boxing or rowing machine to get some interval cardio in, but nooooooo.

 

Will update once I've gotten started on the path toward this trail run. Gotta make sure I'm on track!

I quite enjoy running in the rain, but it has to be the right kind of rain. This morning it was COLD and painful hitting me in the face. That was very much not the right kind of rain.
