Sounds like a very good way to celebrate Star Wars Day. Good call on shutting it down or going to a lighter bell, if both you and Mrs Sloth throw out your backs, then the kids will have to be in charge:)

Sloth girl looks amazing.

I saw a fluffy sloth in the shop yesterday... I went looking for a bike to put him on and take a photo... but I never found a bike and then I got distracted by a fox... so here is a plushie fox which should have been a fluffy sloth!

Using a lighter bell seems like the best option.  You still get your workout in that way.

Go Slothgirl!  Those pics are pretty amazing.

Good luck with MIL.  May you find excuses to stay away without being considered cranky.

That reminds me, how's the glute training coming along?

Thanks. Watching the kids train their aerial feats reminds me of you.  I might have said that before. About the only difference if we put the kids in charge would be that they could watch TV all day.

5/5/17 Cinco de Mayo

School was terrible. The kids entered the school bonkers, acting like they were leaving on the last day. I quickly put the microscopes away and put plan B into place. I kept my room mostly calm, but I spent about half of my day out in the hallway putting out fires.

We had a picnic in the park next to the circus school and we all went to another show. My dad was there.  He told me some family history.  I googled for him and found a picture of his great-grandfather, the original immigrant from Germany, in front of his sod house on the prairie. It was a lovely evening.

Training: DDPYoga + 13 minutes strength aerobics (13X1/1 KB clean/press/OH Lunge at 16kg). I didn't get on the bike because time. I'm not going to hit the Ranger mini goal.

Eating: like crap.  No tacos or margaritas were consumed.

Spending: I'm a little afraid to balance my accts. Bought beer and another circus ticket.

I like that you're excited about finding your great-great-grandfather from Europe when I just got excited at having found a new photo of my great-grandfather, who was born and grew up in North America (Canada).  Internet's so good for stuff like that.

Also amazing circus skills, nice to see the KB workouts, sorry about crazy school kids.

Actually the the kids want to eat better than I do.  They're little foodies like their mother. The only way I'm getting Pop-Tarts is if I'm in charge and I ignore my common sense.

5/6/17 Saturday

No mean things were said to MIL today.

This was the last circus show, we don't do the summer session so you'll get a reprieve from me talking about it until October.  Slothgirl received a "Smile & Style" award today.  The coaches give out a few every night to kids who are hard working, have an especially good attitude, or are especially helpful. I love that the kids are in circus, but I'm grateful for the break from running them to and from. The kids will be doing acrobatics next year, Ranger brain almost convinced me to start working on hand stands too, but I thought better of it and will keep my focus. For at least another week or so ;)

After I brought Slothgirl to her show I was able to get a ride in.  I had to cut it short because Slothbelly decided to rebel against all of the garbage I've been eating this week.

Training:

-DDPYoga 20 minutes.

-S&S 5X10/10 KB swings at 20kg in 7:53. 5X1/1 get ups at 12kg in 6:50.

-Riding 26 miles in ~1:40, I forgot to turn Strava off so I'm not exactly sure. I meant to do 40.

Eating: I think I was back on track.

Spending: no money spent, accts still not balanced.

Tomorrow I'll be at the May Day Festival.  Our local freak fest. I'm not sure what I'll get done.

5/7/17 Sunday- May Day

MIL left before I even woke up this morning.

I woke up early to get a ride in, but my back was jacked up (I tweaked it mowing the lawn yesterday), so I went back to bed. I eventually got up, did yoga and some extra stretching and got some kettlebells in before we left for the festival. Back feels fine now.

The MayDay parade and festival were a good time, as they always are. My dad must be getting lonely, he showed up and came with us for the parade before he got peopled out and left. I saw a bunch of people I knew and even talked to a few. There were a few old students who were glad to see me, probably a few more who avoided me :) I didn't eat any festival food because Slothbelly.

The floats are all human-powered. This was my favorite official float:

a18ec4ee8eed05fbabf09e3d0d760091.jpg

Favorite tall bike:

7dedcfb0102a43524661601fbe7d633e.jpg

Favorite moment: Jesus People proselytizers and MNAtheist proselytizers taking a break from passing out pamphlets and chatting like old friends.

Training:

DDPYoga: 20 minutes

Strength Aerobics: 10X1/1 KB clean/press/OH lunge at 16 kg. Bare minimum.

Riding: none.

Eating: boringly back on track.

Spending: bought dinner, still need to balance books.

Yes, figurative. I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of teaching an arson.

25 student-contact days left.  Last day is June 15.

5/8/17 Monday - I'm feeling beat down; I'm taking a rest day.

I switched classrooms this week because the language arts teacher needs a big space for her arts collaboration.  A week in a small classroom with no labs will feel like a rest too. The students are still bonkers. I think it's a reaction to finishing the standardized testing. I hope we get our groove back soon.

Today's family drama is Slothgirl thinking she has lice because she was sharing combs and hair thingies with the other circus girls. It looks like she has a bit of dandruff, but not lice to me. Anyway, she is all upset because no one would play with her at recess or sit with her on the bus.

Training:

DDPYoga: none

KBs: nada

Riding: zip.

Eating: breakfast was gas station doughnuts and hot dogs.

Spending: my school computer needs a new sound cord.  Our tech doesn't have one.  Rather than wait a few weeks I just ordered one from Amazon, I also ordered new grips for my bike and sunglasses. And I bought coffee and breakfast at gas station. I'm not very good at being thrifty.

ETA: lice confirmed.

Oh noes! Lice suck (your blood :( )! Hope those critters get gone quickly, maybe worth letting the other hair-care-share-bears (or their parentals) know so they can start the napalm treatment too. If slothgirl had any feelings for a haircut now may be the time, I HATED getting my hair lice combed when I was young, went for a pixie cut to make it more bearable.

Teaching-wise, I hope the crazy settles soon! Can you claim back the expenses for school things you replace, either as cashback from the school or from taxes (I don't know how Murica works).

The lice itself aren't too bad. We have the pleasure of dealing with them about once a year, but the ostracizing was really rough on her,  especially since she played with them when they all had lice not too long ago.

I've come to the realization that we're just going to have to ride out the crazy for the rest of the year. I write school expenses off on my taxes, so it's like buying things at a discount.

Slothgirl will never accept a pixie cut. She's been trying to grow her hair down to her butt since she was two.

It was a hellacious day at school. I've come to the conclusion that we've lost the war.  The students are now in charge. My main focus now is keeping kids safe and making the ones who are trying feel like they are learning. It is freeing to come to that conclusion.

I woke up tight and couldn't get my back to loosen up.  It didn't hurt, it just didn't work right. I think it's a combination of too much stress, not enough sleep, and not enough protein. I was able to train today, but I needed longer rest periods.

Training: DDPYoga 20 minutes + extra stretching.

Eating: like crap.

Spending: I went to the DMV and paid for my share of the roads.  Tabs for two cars and a trailer was really expensive. Considering our family drives less than 6,000 miles/year (combined); I feel overcharged.

That quote is good. It reminds me that me and Mrs Sloth are starting to switch attributes. I wouldn't say I'm becoming an extrovert, but I'm more comfortable with people and she's becoming a weird introvert.

That's part of it, but mostly it's that they've discovered the power of no. That we really don't hold any power over them. It's like I have a class full of Bartleby the Scrivener.

It actually wasn't a terrible day at school. We're finishing up cell posters and I got some of the best work I've gotten in years. Weird.  A kid who hasn't turned in a single assignment all year made a poster of shoe that shows all the different bacteria you might step in. Anyway, I'm on the patio drinking a cucumber-habanero cider.  It burns going down. Life is good right.

Training:

DDPYoga: 20 minutes

S&S: 5X10/10 KB swings at 20kg in ~12:00, 4X1/1 get ups at 12kg + 1X1/1 at 16kg. Tied for heaviest get up ever.

Riding: I will hit the trainer soon for an hour.

Spending: about to head to CVS for my ADD meds, $30 copay. Also bought Slothboy a Lego Ninjago book.
