Expecting my father to visit Friday night to Sunday evening, which will most likely lead to a rise on those numbers. Workouts: Second workout of the week. WOD 20 rounds for time (20' Time Cap) 3 Power Cleans at 80% of 1RM 2 Front Squats 1 Shoulder to Overhead Goal: We were told we could EMOM this instead of doing it for time, but it felt too lazy for my liking. Only saw a score of 18:03 on the board, so I aimed for a maximum of 18:30 Result: 18:27 Comments: + Grabbed the 20lbs slam ball for my Situps during warmup. They've been feeling too light and boring, this certainly spiced things up and made them harder. Gotta build dem abz + My 1RM Power Clean is 65 or 70kg, so I loaded 50 on the barbell. In breaking down the WOD for strategy, it felt like the Sh2Oh would be the heaviest part, so my plan was to take a break before the 3rd Power Clean, then go into it and straight into the first front squat, take a breath and do the rest as a thruster for the extra push. Executed to perfection, with minimal breaks between rounds Intensity rating: 90% considering my score and the fact that after the workout, my pulse was sky high and my stomach compressed to the point of wanting to throw up. I couldn't stand upright, bent over or at a squat hold, just wanted to lie down. Bonus: Dave Castro announced that the fittest man, woman and team to win the 2016 Crossfit Games will receive a Glock pistol as a bonus gift. I understand the company's connection with armed forces and regardless of where everyone stands on the issue of gun control, after the Orlando shootings and events in Dallas, the timing couldn't have been worse. Furthermore, I fail to see the connection between fitness and guns (including fitness events being sponsored by gun companies). WOD 12' AMRAP 100+m Farmer Carry 50m Burpee Long Jumps 25m Farmer Lunges Goal: No clue Result: 2 full rounds plus the Carry and 3 Burpee Long Jumps Comments: + Used two 16kg KBs. At first I thought I was going light, but considering the total is 32kg I imagined what a 32kg KB swing would feel like and shut up. - Forced to take many breathers during the carry, even if I pushed myself to make them short. The carry tested my grip strength way more than shoulder or legs, totally unexpected Intensity rating: Can't really gauge this one. Ran out of time when I felt I had something like 5 more minutes to go, so I guess I was slow. Combine that with the breathing pauses, this was like 70% at best? Taking breathers due to grip limitations, or because you were out of breath? If you were out of breath, sounds like the intensity was just fine. A combination of both. Grip limitations (forearm pain and palm calluses) forced the breaks during the Farmer Carry. Breathing came into play during the burpees; I didn't pause for a breath there, but wasn't really jovial in getting down fast and hopping back up quick. WOD Fran 21-15-9 for time Thrusters Pullups Goal: Last time I scored 8:28 using 25kg. Thought I'd go for Rx (42,5kg) but it felt too heavy so I went for 35kg and a sub 10' goal. Baby steps Result: A little under 9:30, as I was told. Maybe 9:28? Comments: Since both time and weight increased, to judge whether progress has been made, I should compare my power outpout. My previous score was 25kg*45reps/508 seconds = 2.2145. This time it's 35kg*45reps/568seconds = 2.7728 meaning I did better. Intensity rating: I wasn't in the groove or feeling strong, pretty disappointed at the end but will be giving this a very generous 80-85% for two reasons. One, because of the increased output as shown above. Two, because during my last set of 9s, for the first time in two years of Crossfit I lost it and finally (?) made it to the infamous "dark place". Can't say it was really dark though, more like the only thing in my vision was a dull grey light as if the world around me had gone foggy, maybe with a light far off in the distance. Not sure I had control over my actions or if the whole thing went on autopilot, but I have no memory of that last round or anyone cheering me on. Finished the workout with a stabbing pain in the gut and gasping for breath. It's what happens when you push past your limits, much like beserkers in videogames I suppose. Kara Webb says here she doesn't remember running the last mile of Murph during last year's CF Games and mind you, she collapsed after the finish line and was carried away with a heat stroke. Theoretically I think it's "desirable" but unachievable and unsustainable on a regular training basis.
