Silmarilliane's forty-first challenge

I passed my last challenge though I'm still running it sort of for this week to try and get 1000pts (though it def hasn't kept me as on track as I was hoping!)

I realised I've been half expecting winter to come back for its second 'phase' as often happens in the UK, but it seems we are actually just skipping to Spring! Which is grand - I've been out a few times without a coat/jumper and it's delightful :)

 

Going to stick to my tried-and-tested challenge approach and hopefully it'll see me good for the next few weeks! It's getting lighter now so there's more sunshine around, but I still want to make sure I get out of the house during the working day so I'm keeping that in with a tweak.

 

FOOD

  • Under 1600 calories for the day 🥗 = 10pts
  • Going very slightly over but for something truly delicious/emotionally needed 🍫 = 5pts
  • Overeating one meal 🍲 = 0pts
  • Overfooding all day 🍟 = -10pts

Maximum = 350pts

 

SLEEP

  • In bed by 10:30 with lights off at 11pm 🛏️ = 10pts
  • Not in bed by 10:30pm but lights off at 11pm 💡 = 5pts
  • Staying up unnecessarily late because I happened to get home late 🤪 = -10pts

Maximum = 350pts

 

EXERCISE

  • Morning run, pilates 100 & 15 supermans 🏃‍♀️ = 5pts
  • Walk at least 20mins 🚶‍♀️ = 5pts
  • Physio 🦵 / home weights 🏋️♀️ / cycling 🚲 / unspecified other exercise of at least 15mins 🤹‍♀️ = 5pts

Maximum indefinite but should be at least 500pts

 

GET OUT THE HOUSE/OFFICE

  • Get outside for at least 20mins during working hours 🌞 = 5pts

Maximum = 175pts

 

So total is ~1400pts and I'm going back to the 1000pt pass mark. Will do my calendar checks in a sec and tweak the pass mark if needed!

Challenge scuppery dates!

 

25th-27th March: so I'm on training in town and have no idea whether lunch is included so calories might be difficult to track

 - this also means I likely won't get physio done as I'll be out all day/evenings, might not get weights done, but at least will get walking with the commutes (and morning run)

28th March: going to the Buffy musical/show thingy and might have dinner out beforehand

29th March: bank holiday and meeting a friend for mani/pedi and might get a fancy lunch out

30th March: no plans yet but will because Saturday

31st March: family day for Easter, big lunch I think and probably chocolate

1st April: got a date, no plans yet but might involve food out

(and now hopefully gets more sensible...)

16th April: team fun evening escape room, likely will get food out (depending on vibe)

18th April: IRL games, might eat in the pub

19th April: going to a friend's show, might get dinner out first

26th-28th April: away for a singing weekend - I've booked to stay in my own place so there's not the standard 'all food included' which should help

 

So it's mainly the first week is very up in the air, and I'll have to see how it goes.

So the real question is: which ending is appropriate?  Scuppery? Scupperable?  Scupperous?   As there is no established rule, I vote you can do what you want 😄

Although I don't usually write until day 2 so I have the prev day update, I'll be in training all day tomorrow and then post-training drinks with maybe going singing after. Also, the good thing is there isn't food provided at the training (although, IS THAT REALLY GOOD?) so I can count calories. I'll update my roadmap in a bit, but I did weigh in and do measurements for that this morning.

I walked this morning to the slightly further away train station as I'm in toon for training, though had to jump on the bus a couple of stops as I misjudged getting up in time - will set my alarm earlier tomorrow! Did a little bit of physio during training (the standing stuff) which I'll finish in a sec, and got most of my weights done before pilates so will also finish that. Should be enough time to get into bed for the 10pts too.

Despite pub after training yesterday I got a falafel wrap to have for dinner and had soda & lime to drink so stayed in calories.

Ran and walked to the station, lunch wander too and home in time for 10:30pm bed, but no physio or other stuff. All fine - I weighed in at just under 11 stone this morning so am back on track.

Weirdly I posted this and it came out purple and said Hidden. So I've copied and reposted... Oh, I've just seen that hidden toggle at the bottom which I obv hit by mistake. What is that even for?!

It's used for moderating content, usually. Like removing spam or something that needs an admin discussion, or holding back something not ready to go live yet. It makes no sense to me why non-admins have a hide button when they have no unhide button and can't access the post once they hide it, but there you go.

 

If you hide anything accidentally, a guild leader or someone can unhide it for you.

Well I was on track for the day until towards the end when I was waiting for the training to finish so I could go to quartet rehearsal and my brain started dribbling out of my ears... My quartet host provided chocolate and sicilian lemonade though, and because we finished pretty early and were only a ten min walk from the work peeps in the pub, I went to the pub, got many guinnesseseses and some snacks, and some pittas when I got home at 1am... I did not run this morning, and am slightly regretting my life choices to go see the Buffy musical thing which is in The Arse End of Nowhere (east London) as well as doing a 12:30-1:30am easter vigil with the sister I'm going to the show with. However, Last-Night-Silmarilliane prepped the coffee machine and also the filled the washing machine so those were nice forgotten-surprise when I got up today! Sleep-wise, I did read for a bit when I got in, while I was eating the pittas, but don't think I stayed up particularly crazy late for no reason.

I'm not sure what the food situ is tonight (the place says 'meze snacks') and the next four days are UK Easter bank holiday weekend, so no doubt I'll be overeating to some extent. I should probably track my calories today so far though, and get my physio done (my hips haven't enjoyed two days off and sitting in the uncomfy training chairs).

Ahh Easter, how thee scuppers me! Let's try to remember what I did...

Thursday was wfh but a lil hungover and sleepy, so I didn't run in the morning, but did walk to the shop at lunch. I'm pretty sure I did physio, and I've definitely done physio twice over this weekend. I also did 100 squats on I think Friday and Saturday. Friday and Saturday I did a decent amount of walking, but didn't yesterday (though I was outside in the sun at least)

Foodwise hasn't been awful but hasn't been calorie counting - Thursday I had a veggie sandwich and carrot cake for dinner, Friday I had brunch and then ended up having 'Easter' for dinner - hot cross buns, a reece's egg and an oreo egg. I wasn't awful for the day though so going -5pts. Saturday I had boardgames at a friend's (with banana bread) and then got dinner out. Again, not calorie counting but not awful. Yesterday was family day and although it was a big roast dinner, apple pie, easter egg cake and chocolate, I didn't have anything other than tea/coffee in the morning and didn't eat anything when I got home (which I normally would do)

Sleep has been... well not awful but not what the challenge dictates. Thursday I did that vigil in church with my sister, and it was kinda frustrating as another guy just decided to turn up early and hang out (I guess for company) - but it meant that I actually didn't need to be there and could have gone to sleep instead (I'm not massively religious and don't use the vigil for contemplation etc - I was there so my sister wasn't by herself)

The most annoying thing was that I was supposed to have my follow up results from my ADHD assessment at 8am Friday morning but rearranged because of said vigil, as I'd be getting home at 2am... I rearranged it to today at 8:30am as I was supposed to be in bed sensibly yesterday, however a friend was going through some very low mood badness last night so we chatted on the phone for a couple of hours until late/early. I absolutely don't regret that, though having to wake up for an 8:30am call wasn't my favourite when I could have had it on Friday. Even so, I don't think I particularly stayed up late for no reason over the last few days so I'm not docking any points.

Massive tangent there, you'll I'm sure be hugely shocked to hear that I have now been diagnosed ADHD, particularly high on the inattentive side...

How do you feel about the diagnosis? I am not ADHD (although there are quite a few symptom overlaps with my diagnosis) but it was a relief for me to get mine because it let me start researching solutions/hacks with more focus.

So I'm on the waiting list for ASD as well, but think that'll be a much longer wait for assessment, and that's the one I care more about. However, once I get the full write-up it should open up some access or at least the suggestion of getting therapy for it (which was recommended), but also I'll be able to speak to occupational health at work and see if there are any reasonable adjustments that can (officially) be made (beyond the coping mechanisms I already have).

Interestingly my mum had to fill out a questionnaire and scored me 1/18 where I scored myself 15/18... the assessor was like, either a) she doesn't see any of that in me/doesn't really know me, b) she doesn't believe ADHD is a thing or c) she doesn't want to be blamed for it/for not doing anything about it. I was like... hmm, maybe a bit of all three?! I'm glad that didn't have ultimate bearing over it though as  my family really doesn't know me all that well. I  think she'd be able to answer the ASD things a lot more accurately though and tbh, I was so busy as a kid with after-school activities that it probably didn't present particularly (plus also the likely ASD which counters some ADHD stuff to an extent, especially as a kid)

Anyway, I've got a friend who was diagnosed ADHD last year and is a coach for neurodiverse people and she's been sending me a whole heap of stuff to read/watch, which is good, but a LOT :D

Hummm.... yesterday now. The date switched from coming round at 1pm to coming round at 7pm which my brain was like HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME I COULD HAVE MADE OTHER PLANS, until I realised I could take stuff to the charity shop and also get some crafting done. They did then go for a 3pm halfway house when they realised they were not quite as hungover as they thought, and that still gave me time to charity drop but not do weights. I could have done after they left but lazy...

I did eat very sensibly but didn't track calories - we got chinese takeaway and I only ordered spring rolls and chilli tofu, but then I did finish my easter egg in the evening. No regrets. Charity shop drop was walking in the daytime (thankfully missing the hail - I was in a tshirt!) and I did my physio too.

Got in bed on time and turned the light off at 11pm but my brain swirled for a good long while before I fell asleep. I really need to sort this somehow as I'm waking up knackered every day... Though giving it a few days of 'getting to bed on time' will probably help.

In IUD news: (tldr; bleeding a bit allllll the time)

What seems to be happening is that where I previously would have about 4 days bleeding per period (2 days heavy, 2 light) I'm now having spotting for a week in the run up, lighter period, and then spotting for a week after. I can only assume this is because the strings are causing the blood to leak out a bit in advance, and then the 'mucous plug' (vom) that the coil makes is limiting the amount that comes out at once and spreading it out for dayyysss.

Le sigh - I mentioned the IUD to my sister and she was like, oh yeah I had that for like six months, but haven't had a period for about a year now. *More regrets* for not deciding to do this a year ago when I wasn't getting laid... I know it's not been two months yet but since 19th Feb I've had a whole nine days (3 + 6) where I haven't been bleeding.

I say this in a semi-moany way but actually I feel like mood-wise I've felt a bit more chill in general. I do wonder if this is because the IUD can reduce sex drive and given my natural state is utter horn-dog, it's taking the edge off a smidge :D

 

Bring on the HOPEFULLY SOON point where it all reduces to something sensible and then stops entirely.

Officey yester so much walking, also had morning run. Calories though had a couple of lindor choc balls at chorus which probably tipped me over, but who's counting? (me, I'm counting :D) No physio or other shiz sadly - I have my poi on my work bag but don't really have the urge to poi at the mo. Had to leave singing early as there were lillies EVERYWHERE in the church and I'm allergic (my throat is still sore today, le sigh), but that meant I got to bed nearly on time.

Oh good! The diagnosis, I mean, not the fact of the condition. Hopefully you can now make some adjustments.
