I'm also transferring money into my savings account immediately when I get paid each week so the money isn't in my current account long enough for me to notice it and come up with other ways to spend it...Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk 2 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. Big_Show
Bit of a step-up in the running goals last night - the Welshman pointed out that entries for the Alton Water Run in May had just opened, and we enjoyed doing them last year ( I did the 10k and he did the 5k), so we decided to enter it there and then - that gives a good four months or so to get back up to being able to run a whole 5k, which is perfectly achievable but also makes my running & weight-loss goals a little bit more time-limited! Further incentive to stick to the eating plan! This morning I weighed myself and I am 0.8kg/1.75lbs down since Saturday - not bad for the first 5 days which still included eating & drinking over New Year's. 1lb a week consistently will keep me happy, so I'm pleased with that start. Work today went fine - I had the last of the meatloaf leftovers for lunch, and then had to spend some time convincing my stomach it had consumed a perfectly good sized meal and didn't need any more food. Eventually it stopped grumbling at me and agreed. This evening I went out for the Week 1, Day 2 of the Couch to 5k programme and was joined by the Welshman - 5mins walk to warm-up followed by 8x 1min run + 90s walk. Still no complaints from my plantar fasciitis, and it was nice to be out running together for the first time. Then I made my attempt at Nom Nom Paleo's Sheet Pan Meatballs and Broccoli (with added baby new potatoes) - doesn't look as good as theirs, but definitely tasted nice! Tomorrow is a total rest day but I'm not gonna carried away with eating - even got plans to cook a quick & easy dinner instead of ordering a takeaway, and then getting up on Saturday to play tennis in the morning! 3 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. Big_Show
It has been an excellent weekend! Friday was a lazy evening as we were both well & truly knackered - when I got in I immediately got into my comfies and retreated to the sofa with a beer and a book: When the Welshman got back we spent most of the evening watching The Walking Dead (we're currently on Season 2, so no spoilers please!) and I cooked us dinner instead of getting a takeaway - it was mostly pre-prepared stuff from the supermarket, but it was definitely a healthier option than we could have gone for. Microwaveable mashed potato, microwaveable carrots, nice sausages from Waitrose that just needed bunging in the oven for half an hour, and some Bisto gravy. Oh, and a few yorkshire puddings as well for good measure. Saturday morning I got up and watched Castlevania with chocolate cereal, and then we went off to play Tennis for an hour! Haven't played in years and we weren't that good, but it got us both out of the house and doing exercise, so that's the main thing! We then spent a bit of time tidying the house, before popping out for a couple of beers in some nice pubs we don't usually make it to. Plenty of walking involved in that, so possibly counts as exercise? Dinner was pizza & curly fries, but we got them from the frozen section of Sainsbury's so it was a much cheaper cheat meal than usual. And as a result we each stuck the tenner we would have spent in the wedding savings jar as an extra boost [emoji4] I drank a lot of rhubarb & ginger gin that evening. It was a good evening. Sunday involved another walk, and as my back was kinda sore (I think I slept funny last night) I swapped my intended Back & Biceps session at the gym for 45mins on the bike listening to a podcast. More housework when I got back (the house is gradually getting back into shape post-Christmas, as well as a gradual further decluttering) and I cooked scotch eggs stuff for my breakfasts along with a beef stew for my lunches. I shall eat well this week! Dinner is also a prepared affair as I'm kinda sick of cooking now - gammon shanks with a maple syrup sauce, roast mediterranean veg, and some sweet potato & swede mash. A nice quiet end to a good weekend, and I'm left raring to go for the week ahead! 6 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Monday! It feels like it has been a solid start to the week. No snacking at work, despite some heartless bastard bringing a box of cookies into the office: I mean seriously, who does that in January? After work I went out for Week 2, Day 1 of the Couch to 5k programme - today was 5mins warm-up, then alternating 1.5mins running with 2mins walking for 20mins. It all felt really easy still, and I suppose it will continue to do so until I hit the point where it isn't. But the main thing is I made it through another session without anything complaing, seizing up, snapping, or falling off. So I'm taking the win. Spent a lot of the evening taking care of jobs and cooking dinner while the Welshman had work to do - it's ages since we had any fish that wasn't battered and served with chips, so I baked some smoked haddock in the oven: I also reset my YNAB budget so I can keep on top of it properly from here on in - I'm going to try to look at it every single evening this week to make sure I'm getting it all right again now. Tomorrow I'm finally doing my delayed Back & Biceps session, which means it's Deadlift Day! Very excited [emoji7] 4 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. There are still loads of cookies on offer, but I haven't even so much as wavered thus far. Tomorrow's going to be my day of getting canteen food, so I'm going to make sure I pick a healthy option that also fills me up nicely for the afternoon. After work was Back & Biceps day at the gym; my poverty lifts are finally creeping up again, and I made progress on my deadlift again! I think it may be around the highest it was a few years ago before I hurt my back (in completely unrelated circumstances) and had to take a few months off, so I'm excited to see where I can get to if I just keep lifting consistently. Tonight's a quiet night in, still chipping away at the big long To Do list of things. Adulting is dull, but necessary all the same... 5 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. Big_Show
Thursday! Got my eating back on track today for the most part. Had to go to the shop at work because I had forgotten to restock my desk with planned snacks for the week, and I accidentally bought a packet of wine gums as well - lesson (re)learned, I cannot be allowed to go the shop. After work I headed to the gym for Leg Day - I am determined to up my poverty squats and stop being scared of injuring myself while doing them. Not lifting that much on them yet, but following it up with leg press, weighted lunges, leg extensions, and weight calf raises definitely left my legs feeling like they had a workout. Rest day tomorrow accordingly! Cooking dinner tonight in between ticking things off the Adulting list - baked pork chops with stir-fry veg, Simple but hopefully tasty & filling. Not much more to add - got another quiet (and cheap!) weekend planned, during which I intend to run, hit the gym, and carry on clearing out the house. This weekend we hit the spare room and bash that into shape a bit. What fun. 5 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Weekend update time! Friday was a total rest day. I came home and drank gin while reading Ms. Marvel comic book: The rest of the evening was similarly quiet, and included a couple of pints at the pub. Good times. Saturday morning we eventually went out for the Couch to 5k programme again - that's week 2 complete now! Week 3 has slightly more actual running in it, but not wildly much more. That afternoon I also popped to the gym for a Chest, Shoulders & Triceps workout, as it looks like I'll need to have an extra evening off training this week so I wanted to fit it all into the weekend before instead. Sunday - for brunch I tried out a new recipe from Nom Nom Paleo for Shaved Brussels Sprouts with Bacon. Nice & simple to make, and I would definitely recommend it! Stuck an egg on it too, because why on earth wouldn't you? After that we popped into town for shopping, then headed to the gym for a Back & Biceps workout. And I realise I'm probably now in Deadlift PB territory! Then got my meal prep done for meals at work (scotch eggs for breakfasts and a bacon & spinach casserole for lunches). The rest of the day has involved more clearing out the house and getting other jobs done - it's finally starting to look a bit more like actual functioning adults live here! Slightly. 4 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time.
