Laghail
Loving the discussion on monster fuckers and I wish I was Xanatos enough to have engineered it! I think I usually engage monster fucker tropes as extended metaphors for handling miscegenation and perverse bodies. An acceptable body is white/straight/cis/not disabled/young and wealthy. Cartoons are so helpful in illustrating by exaggeration the boundaries of good and bad bodies [TW Nazi propaganda poster] Spoiler Notice we’re at a zero on the monster fucker scale with the pic above, both couples conscientiously represented as zero degrees of otherness in their white wedding. But when we pivot to the topic of monster fuckery below, we see our same white cis het hero reject the penetrating black ooze that was corrupting his aryan purity. [TW Racist American miscegenation propaganda] Spoiler Venom wasn’t supposed to an anti-hero or a sympathetic villain, but us fans recognized a fellow perverse body - fat / queer / black/ effeminate / disabled / brown / low-income / trans / elderly - all of us deviants from the aryan purity standard. Once we’ve used Venom and spiderman as a vocabulary of monster fucker as a metaphor for celebrating diverse bodies, do we need to say anything more to understand our main characters on gargoyles? Liam has a gorgeous floral abstract on his left shoulder, and I have the Ghallanda greater dragonmark from below on my right forearm - both look crisp and as if we got them 30 days ago.
